AllforNun
You mock the Tuna Fish, Sweetcorn and Mayonaise sandwich but maybe that's because your only aware of poor ingredients. Mark One would fit in nicely then surely ? Is there ED Bougie at work here ? Louisa
kford - Just because you assume that everyone out their has embraced the digital age does not mean we no longer need face to face interaction on a high street. If we all completely embraced the internet we would not need to leave our homes. The death of traditional high street was accerated by the large supermerkets during the 1970's and 1980's, and now the online shopping age is ensuring that it completely snuffs it off for good. I do not know anyone who does internet banking, and I personally feel uncomfortable doing it and I like to travel to a secure branch and have a face to my banking. As I previously said, a lot of the older generation feel the same, and the closing of branches really isnt helping certain communities survive. Besides, most of the old Woolwich branches - Peckham and Sydenham being prime examples - have been turned into small Barclays branches to help cope with the new number of customers. I think the same needs to happen with the LL branch. Jah Lush
I make you right there Louisa, you certainly wouldn't catch me using the internet to do my banking and for a lot of people the personal touch on a face to face level is what proper customer service is all about. Mind you, it's rare that I need to go to the bank as I usually just use the hole in the wall to get my cash out. It's only when I need to put a cheque into my account that I need to pay them a visit.Allfornun: I do not mock the tuna fish, sweetcorn and mayonaise sandwich, it's my favourite as it happens and I like it on granary thank you. So what on earth makes you presume I am only aware of poor ingredients? Louisa
I dont know what all the fuss was about - the place isnt anything special at all, even the young and trendy cant be arsed with the tat they have on offer. Keef
Going back to the start of this thread, why would a Tescos have been so bad? Okay so it's not Waitrose or M&S, but for me they'd beat Sommerfield anytime! As for a Mark One, I'm quite surprised if that's true, but I bet they'd do pretty good business.Personally I'd like it to be another amusement arcade, just for the uproar... Or a Lidls! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1451-the-old-woolwich-bank-site/page/2/#findComment-39629 Share on other sites
Louisa
We dont need another Tesco store Keef, there is one on EDR! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1451-the-old-woolwich-bank-site/page/2/#findComment-39644 Share on other sites
Keef
What the garage? Not the same really.Don't get me wrong, I'm not desperate to see a Tesco, I'd always rather a bar. I just wanted to know why a couple of people seemed full on against it. Louisa
Well I must admit, i've been to a few towns outside of London where Tesco is literally a looming giant which blocks all competition. In Milton Keynes (pop. 305,000) they have three large stores along with at least 8 smaller local stores. Asda were prevented at every oppurtunity from buying up land to build a store, and Sainsburys were restricted to two small town centre stores. I am not a fan of Tesco and it's tactics, and as much as I dislike Sainsbury's, it remains dominant in it's spiritual home of London, and i'd like it to stay that way. I like the idea of another bar though Keef, i'd like to see a cocktail bar to rival that awful place down the road. fonson
Mark One in East Dulwich will attract dross from the surrounding hell holes. It is very down market and wouldn't fit in with the ED image.Natwest had so many banches all over the place, years ago (3 on Curzon street in the West End), they were closed down and now after about 10 years it is the fashion to open up new branches!! Louisa
Oh no the commoners from Dog Kennel Hill end may start to use LL more often... We could be in for bumpy times fonson.. Brendan
Do you really want to go there Keef. ;-)Anyway does this mean that they are getting rid of the Woolwich hole in the wall? It is already a pain in the arse trying to get money out on a Saturday. We need more ATMs on LL. Louisa
Brendan this is what people do not think about. Yes the hole in the wall will be gone and yes we will be down to just a few cash machines all on the other side of the road. I am sending Barclays an arsey email now letting them know how awful it will be without their presence on both sides of the road. The bloody Village branch doesnt even have a cash machine! God I hate Barclays :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1451-the-old-woolwich-bank-site/page/2/#findComment-39671 Share on other sites
Keef
Oh please don't say Black Cherry, a really good friend works there, and whilst it not really my cup of tea, it's one of the nicer places on LL... Liquorice on the other hand.....Tescos are taking over Woolwich (not the LL site but the place) over the next couple of years. They have done a big deal with Greenwich council, and are bulding a huge store, as well as loads of housing, and some council offices. Now I see your point about MK louisa, but believe me, it will do Woolwich the world of good, the place is a bloody dump!!! Louisa
I agree Keef, Woolwich is a dump, and now Barclays have taken over the only thing the place was famous for (other than the football team which decided north of the river was better), it could well be time for some regeneration. But please... Tesco? ... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1451-the-old-woolwich-bank-site/page/2/#findComment-39683 Share on other sites
fonson
All I am saying..........Mark One is cheap Tatt and doesn't stand up to the more upmarket shops like White Stuff, ED Deli etc. If they got in we would have the likes of Quality Seconds trying to get in. We don't want to be Lewisham shopping centre, Peckham High street or Streatham...........Do You?? Louisa
Mark One already has a store on Rye Lane less than a mile down the road, they will not be opening up on LL. Now, back to business, how about that Ann Summers I had been promised?
