This post resonates so strongly with me... I read it in bed last Sunday morning (and only just getting to post!) with my gorgeous three-month old boy next to me and welled up about 5 times just thinking about how all these lyrics mean so much now that he's 'in the world'... Absolutely love the Adele and Abba songs too...

Yorkie - your comment 'becoming a mother you lose a layer of skin which never grows back' is just SO true. I feel happier than I've ever been but also more emotional and soft around the edges - because there's so much more at stake now!

To add my own song - there are too many to list them all - having bought my lovely boy a Disney album for us to sing along to, I chanced upon Baby Mine from Dumbo which I hadn't heard in years. With practice I can now sing it without tears but if I think about the simple words too much, it can get me everytime. It completely captures for me the terrifyingly strong feelings of the newborn period and beyond...and when I sing it I always think how he will never be this dependent on me again which makes me happy and sad at the same time:

Baby mine, don't you cry

Baby mine, dry your eyes

Rest your head close to my heart

Never to part, baby of mine

Baby mine, when you play

Don't you care what they say

Let those eyes sparkle and shine

Never a tear, baby of mine

From your head to your toes

You're so sweet, goodness knows

You are so precious to me, cute as can be, baby of mine

Thank you for making an already soppy new mummy cry once again!!

When my little boy was born I would cry everytime I heard Tom Baxter's "better", it just said it all. Check it out on youtube sorry I don't know how to do a direct link. I put a DVD in his baby book as it meant so much to me.. "the more I talk to you....I fall in love with everything you do..." says it all, makes me tearful even now, he's now an energetic 3 year old. Love all the songs suggested so far.

Sillywoman - how did your daughter react to the link you sent her to the Abba song? I always imagine sharing it with my girls one day in the future, but wonder if they will by then just shake their heads and say "Mum you are sooooo soppy" LOL.

Had a lovely moment with O (6) the other evening when we were telling her how proud we are of the way she has welcomed her little sister into the family, and in return she told us how much she loves us, and her sister....and that she always wants us 'by her side' and always wants her sister to be 'near her'......ahhhh we know it will all change one of these days, but even so........

Here is link to siomcc's song Better, By Tom Baxter

Lovely choice.

Molly - I dont know abot sillywoman, but my girls love to see me cry during "slipping through my fingers" they think its hysterical and always turn the lights up in the film so that I can't get away with a sneaky snivvle. Grrr!

THat's what I was going to post, Heidi!!

sense by the lightening seeds. it's been making me cry since i first found out i was pregnant. that and different world by jackie wilson. i'm a mess whenever i hear either of those.

and also one day like this - our boy kind of chose this himself and it was the only thing that would calm him down at times when he was grumpy. sums it up really. if i could only have one day a year with him it'd make every other day worthwhile!

I often think of this thread, even though shockingly it was three years ago, tempus fugit...

Was reminded of it today, listening to the words of the lovely Ellie Goulding track 'How long will I love you?' which surely must have been written about a mother's love for her child. I love every word and feel they could have been written for me and my little girl, already almost 9 months old. Think my favourite bit is:

'How long will I hold you

As long as your father told you

As long as you can'

Forgive me the sentimental bumping of this post. It's almost Christmas and I'm feeling blessed with my two! xx

Ladies, I am crying my eyes out, mascara all over my face and I am at work:)

When baby Ivydale was born we were kept at kings following complications for ages and had a pretty rough time with it. My other half still sings "we fell in love in a hopeless place" by Rhinanna or similar. A pretty rubbish tune but it wells me up everytime I hear him sing it with his put on gentle soothing voice.

It is just something about this very masculine man making a huge effort to be so gentle that blows me away. Oh and besides, noone can make light of a rubbish time like my other half.

    • Hi everyone, we are trying to finslise our decision for enrolling our son for 3+ from September and currently considering Dulwich Prep or Herne Hill. We like both and appreciate there is no right or wrong answer but what we like about HH is great focus on early years and also being coed. However if we can avoid the 7+ stress then prefer to do that. Dulwich Prep is closer but the difference is not significant. we know children are very active and busy in DP and they have great facilities, but unlike HH, we don’t know much about their focus on personal development and emotional intelligence, etc! Also not sure about long-term impact of being in boys only school. Difficult decision for us and we appreciate feedback from parents if you can share please.    thank you
    • Yeah that was their old policy. Their new policy is to force you to have a water meter and if you refuse they put you on a punitively high tariff which effectively forces you to have one. I was doing well with my policy of polite resistance which was to say yes fine I'll have one fitted but then not actually book an appointment or cancel the appointments they made. But then I was persuaded that it would be much cheaper anyway.
