titch juicy
I still think a proper steak restaurant would do very well. An independent like Buen Ayre (best steaks in town for my money and very reasonable) in Broadway Market, Hackney, or even a Hawksmoor. They would have no proper competition.http://buenayre.net/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/144846-xoco-grill-closed-for-good-memsaab-now-open/page/8/#findComment-1115058 Share on other sites

Seabag
You ain't never going to see a Hawksmoor down here. But new one at Borough is close enough Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/144846-xoco-grill-closed-for-good-memsaab-now-open/page/8/#findComment-1115117 Share on other sites
Louisa
I wouldn't mind placing a bet on Hawksmoor going to the village. Plenty of empty properties awaiting a decent restaurant. They won't come to ED though. Louisa. Jeremy
No no, ED is far too suburban for the likes of Hawksmoor, but nevertheless it would indeed be great to have a decent local steak restaurant. New look and menu, and if that does the things it needs to do, then there's a roll out of that model. In theory that could make a case for a Foxlow Dulwich. However, they closed the one in Stoke Newington recently. Seabag
The steakhouse run by Charlie Carol have taken in a huge chunk of money His brand 'Flat Iron' are rolling out a number of new branches, so we might be seeing one of these somewhere in the manor. Although I can't help thinking that with a steak restaurant, the selling point is primarily the quality of the meat, and rapid expansion could potentially compromise that.. Hawksmoor in the Village on a wet Tuesday evening in November will be empty. In addition, DV's restaurants are mediocre, which seems to suit the Dulwich Estate and the local population, who probably do their eating out in the West End and City. BrandNewGuy
Yes and no. Lordship Lane seems to support a thriving mix of places to eat out. Not all are going to suit everyone's tastes and if I want 'fine dining', I'll probably head for one of my favourite eateries in town rather than locally. Jah Lush
Long before it was Caf? Rouge in Dulwich Village for many years it was The London Steak House. It was considered quite posh, certainly too posh for my mum and dad as we never ate there. I remember they had a doorman in livery outside when I lived on Pickwick Road throughout in the 60s and 70s. I can't remember when it closed, probably sometime in the 80s or early 90s. Sue
I've just passed the establishment in question.Apart from the Xoco sign still there (understandable if they haven't got the new Memsaab one yet) there is still a Xoco menu in the window, and nothing at all to say the place has changed hands, let alone to promote their "grand opening" in just a week's time.Surely at least they could take the old menu out and put some kind of notice in the window?! DulwichFox
Probably need to get the electric sorted out first... If the Menu is illuminated, might be hard wired needing an electrician.. Foxy...
