A friend mentioned hearing about a nursery/creche near the Horniman Museum where you can drop your child off for just a couple of hours at a time. This would really suit me as a full-time mother of a 15 month-year-old for those times when I just can't take him with me to the dentist or need to get other stuff done etc. Does anyone know where this place is, or of any others locally?

Many thanks

Hi,

I think there are two she might be referring to - there's Piplings, w hich certainly started off as drop off, but now might be more of a conventional nursery (I haven't been there so am just going on previous posts on here). There's also Magic Moments creche, which if you do a search for on here you should be able to find details for - have a feeling though that it's 18 months and up. I do sympathise - have been a full time mum till very recently, and still am most of the time, it's a nightmare when it comes to things like doctor's appts etc.

Hope that helps. I have heard nothing but good things about Magic Moments, but as it happens my son is starting at nursery a couple of mornings a week from Feb, so am holding out for that. I don't think MM is a drop off per se, but others on here may be able to shed more light (or give you the contact details).

Magic Moments is fabulous, my two children are very happy there and I'm almost sad that my older boy is leaving to go to school nursery in January. You book a regular slot each week, and can go as little as one morning if you want to (I started with one morning, they now go three). It's only 2 hours, but I find it amazing just how much you can fit into 2 hours when you're determined enough!

It runs term time only.

    • Or turning left,  continuing on down Forest Hill Road and turning right further up.  Google maps has Dulwich marked at the junction by the old Grove, where the South Circular heads off towards the rest of Dulwich. But whatever, yes you can definitely get to Dulwich by going in the direction shown on the signpost! I'm not sure you would get "anywhere" by going straight down, though, let alone 23 miles down 🤣 I like the "Now here" though!
    • There is no doubt that Labour's doom mongering when it came into office spooked the markets. Plenty of analysts and businesses said so pre-budget. And why the budget was leaked so much before its announcement, I do not know. Honestly, whoever is in charge of comms really needs to get the boot.  I am so sick of hearing them bang on about 14 years of Tory decay - Labour repeatedly pressed the Tories for longer, more astringent lockdowns. It's largely thanks to the furlough scheme that we're in so much debt. I was such a staunch lockdown supporter at the time and now, looking back, it seems draconian. We're still paying the price in so many ways.
    • Dulwich is a slightly ill-defined concept.  I think this definition is "Dulwich Library" via Barry Road
