Lovely forumites...a little question I can't seem to find an answer to in any of the other threads on pushchairs....

For Christmas my mother-in-law is kindly buying us a second buggy for the car, holidays, flights, etc and to last us as Baby Knomester gets to big for his pram (we have a very good but rather large Britax B-Smart with carrycot).

I've had a quick look at the Maclaren range which everyone seems to be a fan of and just wondered whether, with experience, you would go for the XT or the XLR (the main differences I can see are that the XLR is slightly bigger, heavier and comes with foot muff included)....?

Thank you!

We sold our well-loved XT and bought an XLR so that we could take advantage of being able to strap an infant carrycot to the top of the XLR (you can't with the XT), turning it into a mini-pram, parent-facing. It's slightly wider and bigger than the XT, and much more expensive. I'd suggest you go with the XT unless the infant carrycot is useful for you - and I think the Knomelet is beyond that stage?

We have an XT, we got it as a lighter alternative to the travel system buggy and now we only ever use the XT! I'd say if it's just for car/holidays etc then definately go with the XT on the basis of weight and size. We found we could put the footmuff from our old buggy on it and have also bought a lightweight one that folds up nicely with it.

How old will your baby be by then? The Quest is lighter than either of those, but think it's 6 months and up (or poss 3 months? does have several recline positions, but not fully flat hence not from birth) - and poss a better car/holiday option as such?
We also had a britax vigour which i suspect is the "ancestor" of the one you have. great but too heavy to get around now baby is older. we were going to buy a quest which is sold in the uk/us as suitable from 3 months but in europe from 6. the idea was to have a lighter buggy for public transport. in the end we got an xt because our order got messed up. we are very happy with it but i agree with belle and ko quest is probably best option as a second buggy. i think xlr is great but for newborns because of carrycot option. it is also wider than xt or quest. we use two footmuffs on our xt, one maclaren and another thinner oner. we have no problem folding the buggy with them on.
Thank you thank you! I think we'll definitely rule out the XLR and road (shop) test the XT and the Quest. I think I'm erring towards the XT as the Quest is only 0.4kg lighter than the XT and not much more compact but the XT looks like it'll be a more comfortable ride for Baby Knomester.

I was between the Techno and Quest, I erred towards Techno until my partner pointed out that the whole purpose of a second buggy was a small light buggy for holidays

, boot of car and bus travel. Def look at the two together, the wheels on the Techno are much larger as is the frame, doesn't fold as small either.

Happy with my Quest although def wouldn't want as an only buggy!

    • erm, I did read, I referenced and I posted - what is your point?
    • Try and read before commenting Sep, or you will, as you have done, not be relevant
    • if anyone believes Reform is a party they can trust then they really don't need to be insulted by me - they are doing all the damage themselves If people don't like the state the country is in they should question why Farage fought for Brexit and why it continues to damage the country so much. He and you will splutter it wasn't done properly but if you can't see the contradictions I can't help you
    • It's not incredibly difficult to understand that people vote Reform because they don't want the Tories back and they don't like Labour and they don't like the state the country is in. It hardly makes them "criminally negligent" - in fact, Sepiroth,  you can just stop insulting people just because you don't like what they have to say - it doesn't really add to your credibility. While Sep says "What the country needs is a serious, mature electorate", what the country REALLY needs is a party that we can trust - and that we do not have.  There is no point at all in having a serious and mature electorate if we don't have a serious and mature party to get vote for.
