Hi, Can anyone recommend some good long weekend options for a break with toddlers, drivable from London (2-3 hrs max), with things to do and ideally a toddler friendly accommodation (self catering or a decent family hotel)?

We've done a fait amount of flying recently and keen to just get out of London but to give airports a rest. Any tips much appreciated!

Thanks.

Gladwins farm is great; 2 hours in car, animals to feed on site, indoor and outdoor play aviators for kids and indoor pool. They can organise babysitting for you if needed. Reasonably well stocked kitchens from equipments perspective and 'cook' freezer meals available too.

We stayed here last Easter "Macdonald Elmers Court Hotel & Resort" in Lymington - so you have the New Forest all around. Day trip to Longdown Activity Farm which was great.

Room was big enough for 2 travel cots (our kids were nearly 3 and nearly 1) and they had been set up for us (and thankfully quite long cots so the nearly 3 year old still fit!) Food had 2 options I think, one was a bit hit and miss but think that was a staffing issue so hopefully sorted. It had a pool (not amazing but good enough) and nice grounds. You could walk to town (but it was a long walk) or drive.

Other option is Marwell Hotel - next to Marwell Zoo. You can get Zoo tickets included in the package and we then went to Peppa Pig World the next day (30 mins drive or so). Hotel bit old looking but great restaurant and food (and kid friendly) and swimming pool (bit dated and small but ok). Room was small but there may be bigger options. Great having the Zoo right outside!

We just had a lovely weekend in Alfriston in East Sussex, less than 2 hours drive. Really pretty village with nice pubs, good short walks along the river, Middle Farm which was great for petting animals and jumping about in hay, there's also drusilla's zoo. We stayed in a lovely airbnb - we were a large group but sure there must be smaller options too

    • A few questions to think about for the patient participation meeting at  the practice   1. The FHRGP Website Why aren't the staff's names and job titles listed on the site as they used to be, and like other practice's do? 2.  Allocation of appointments Why is it practically impossible to see a GP at this practice?   Why are you GP's, if you do not want to see patients face to face?   The pandemic is long over, you're supposed to be providing a service to your patients,, but you rather do telephone consultations, patients want to be able to see their GP, why is this?   Why do you send patients to the Tessa Jowell centre to see a GP?   How many doctors work Full time at this practice?   Why do doctors only do three days a week working for the practice, not a full week?   Why does the practice not offer a walk in morning and afternoon surgery as the previous GP on Forest Hill Road used to offer till he retired? 3.  Accessing non-urgent care Thought that was what the surgery was supposed to offer!! 4.  A named GP My named GP keeps on changing, must be on the 5th one by now!   Are the GP's fully qualified as GP's or are they part trained associate GP's? 5. Staff name badges 6.  Face to face appointments   Why is it like walking through treacle to get an appointment, only to be told if you are fortunate to get an appointment that it is with a GP at the Tessa Jowell centre?   How many patients in Q1 - Q4 of 2024 have had a face to face appointment with a GP at FHRGP?   How many patients in Q1 - Q4 of 2024 have been referred to see a GP at Tessa Jowell Centre? And why is that?   How many patients have had a home visit in Q1 - Q4 of 2024 ?   7.  Older patients and apps   Why not offer to help patients get the NHS app?   8.  The long term plan   Are you planning on closing this practice?    It seems that GP's here do not want to see patients, but rather refer them to see other clinical staff here, Why is this?   9.  A patients’ questionnaire   We can do the questionnaire right here and now, no need to post one out.    Do you have confidence in the Management and Leadership of the practice?   Does the practice meet your clinical needs?   How can the practice improve what it offers its patient's?   Why are the resources of the practice not being fully utilised, there is so much unused and wasted space that could offer patients more services, i.e bloods, ultra sound scans, minor surgery unit?
    • I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I think trees laid bare without their clothes on always look attractive to me
    • Avoid Foxtons.  Horrendous experience with them last year.
    • I see their website has it as https://www.royalmail.com/services-near-you/delivery-office/peckham-and-east-dulwich-delivery-office-se15-5au, though I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're also distinct administrative or operational entities for some purposes.  I note, for example, that Peckham (SE15) isn't on the list.
