sakwhita
Hi fellow EDF cyclists.I was just wondering... if you wear gloves when you cycle... how often do you wash them?Once a week?Once a month?Once a year?Never?Answers would maybe help me out with a little idea I have.Thanks. Pearson
sakwhita - So what's this idea of yours?I guess it depends on the gloves you wear, ie waterproof/ Merino wool/ mits /`sweaty cheapo ski gloves etc(edit:typos abound!) Plus, in winter I sometimes have no option but to use the nose wipes (sorry, but it's true). Pearson
You're not alone felt-tip.I think Binary star has OCD ;-)(I'm just jealous actually)The most important thing about gloves for me, is that they get put on the radiator as soon as i get home so they're nice dry and toasty for the next day. citizenED
I'm with Felt-tip, mine usually get so tatty and battered that they end up in the bin. Wash them? Never have. Applespider
I haven't washed mine either - but they have leather/suede bits so it never occurred to me.I suspect if I had full fingered fabric ones I might. Then again, my ski gloves haven't got smelly either so perhaps my hands just don't sweat that much?! Horsebox
I've two pairs of Decathlon fingerless gloves that get washed every 2 weeks or so in the summer. They've lasted me 4 years so far and are worn every day. ?5 a pair so quite the bargain. In winter I wear a pair of Altura 'under gloves' which I've had for 2 years - washed every 3-4 weeks and still going strong, apart from the moth-hole on the right thumb, which currently facilitates iphone texting when I'm jumping red lights or cycling no-handed along the pavements around ED. katie1997
I never bothered to wash cycling gloves as I used to wear really cheap ones that I replaced frequently anyway (pink and black Minnie Mouse gloves - meant for children I believe :-$) Now got decent cycling gloves, Endura and Sealskinz (as of last week) I am not sure of their washing instructions, if any.Good luck with your idea for Dragon's Den (tu) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14329-edf-cyclists-a-quick-question/#findComment-383499 Share on other sites
ImpetuousVrouw
Maybe the people who don't wash their gloves don't get the runny nose that some of us do! If I didn't wash mine they'd end up pretty crusty! oilworker
I agree - gloves need washing once a week otherwise they get encrusted on the outside with snot and on the inside with sweat.(waht a horrible lot we are?) Does anyone else have problems with their helmets?/ Mine gets very sweaty esp. in summer - I put it in the washing machine sometimes or in the sink with disinfectant - this regime is prob not in accordance with manufacturers instructions..but needs must... ImpetuousVrouw
I have a snow boarding helmet and it has an inner cloth bit that I can remove and wash so it doesn't get too stinky. I even wash my anti-pollution face mask! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14329-edf-cyclists-a-quick-question/#findComment-383538 Share on other sites

Ladymuck
Gloves: once a monthAnti-pollution mask: once a fortnightHelmet: never (just had a sniff - doesn't smell - but then it is ventilated and I do wear a hat underneath in cold weather).Dragon's Den is hubby's favourite programme, I'll ask him to watch out for you. I hope you never get to hear "I'm out". Good luck.
