This is what I do - less hassle.


May depend on where abouts in ED you are, eg whether at the Forest Hill end. I have a shortish walk to ED station.


Coming back from Brighton via a change at Croydon has always been an absolute nightmare in my experience.


ETA: And yes, hanging about cold deserted stations when changing trains at night is not my idea of fun either.


Also, the less (fewer?) changes you have, the less chance of things going wrong or cancelled trains.


ETA: It may seem odd to go South via going North, but if the journey is easier it makes sense to me. Also may be slightly more expensive but I think not much.
