This terrible incident raises wider questions of what is going on with the police? My twelve year old son was held up by an older child with an imitation (we think!) firearm. The detective has time to call me regularly to ask how my child is doing, but fended off requests that he examine CCTV at the scene. Finally they've asked my son to make a statement and look at photos nearly three months after the event. I almost feel that the police wish I would encourage my son not to bother, and thereby save them further work.

Tibby...make a formal complaint that that Police did not tell you until six days later that your car had been recovered (so that negates any daily storage fee) and that given you were the vicitm of an aggravated burglary, why should you have to pay to get your car back? Especially if the Police are not forensically examining it for evidence.

We pay taxes for the Police to work on our behalf. It sounds to me as though it's in a pound along with cars seized for no insurance, tax etc and that there's no distinction between those whose car has ended up there through fault of their own and those who like you have done nothing wrong.

I agree with writing to local MP, press etc. Try also BBC's Watchdog. See if it's a story they will cover. You can contact them via their website.

that is truly appalling! what reason can there be to wait days before notifying you...and then to take it to edmonton in the tropic of tottenham. you MUST contact the local press and also get in touch with the police divisional commander. if you are in the scutari road area, you are probably now in hattie harman's constituency. please do contact her.she is a very good mp. good luck and don't let them screw you around like this. you are the victim of a nasty crime.

It seemed weird in the first place, and it seems weirder now.

Did the initial crime get reported to the police? You said that you were trying to report it, but the thief 'grabbed your hand'? Did you call them again afterwards? Did you get a crime number?

Did you receive a visit from a police officer? Did you go to the police station? Were you contacted by victim support?

Kford, yes there are two people writing comments under tibby mainly my husband who as Huguenot points out uses no punctuation or capitals and myself (the wife) who was the actual victim along with our children. I apoloise if our style of writing is not identical, one of us cleary had a better education. If you wish to look back on other post where we have posted you will see that it is mainly by husband who posts from his "style of writing"

My husband only posted on here to warn others to be careful, I posted once it seemed more sensible for me to write the thread.

It is exaclty because of comments such as these that I actually do not post on here.

There is nothing weird about this thread, I still have 2 little girls scared to be in their own home and who have now to under go counselling to try and help them come to terms with what has happened to us.. all for the sake of someone getting as far as the old kent road.

Thank you to all the forum users who have posted and sent private messages to us but we will now just get on with dealing with the fall out of the events last wednesday privately and away from the forum

Huguenot

I have just had a friend contact me regarding your first post which I did not see before I posted my last thread so although I said I was going to deal with this away from the forum I am so furious I am going to answer your questions:

Yes whilst the guy was kicking my main door and banging on fragile side stain glass window panes (which are now cracked) and shouting through the letterbox I was on the phone 999 reporting the incident.

Yes I do have a crime number

Yes two police officers arrived at my house after the guy had driven off

No I havent been to the police station as they have not asked me too

No I have not been contacted by Victim Support - we have organised our own counselling.

Would you like to come and meet my daughters and explain to them that it is weird?

I trust this clears up any reservations that you had.

Tibby I'm so sorry that this awful thing has happened to you and that now Huguenot has added to your distress .

Please try and ignore him ,IME his main interest in posting is to appear clever .

And IMO that is not always an appropriate response, it puts people off from posting on this forum ,which I think is a shame .

If his posts cause distress ( and I can sense his clever reply which will include a dissertation on the meaning of the word distress and the fact that you said you were furious )he really doesn't care ,he'll just carry on .

He'll write some nasty response to this ,completely missing the point and I shall ignore it .

If you can ,I'd recommend that you ignore him as well .

I've spoken to local Police.

The car once located in the north of the borough had to be 'forensically lifted' due to the extreme nature of obtaining the keys and then taken away for detailed forensic examination. The former apparently takes a day to arrange and the latter several days to perform it was implied mainly due to queuing. The place this is done is in Edmonton north London.

Thankfully what took place is exceptionally rare but useful to warn people in case their was any attempt to repeat this crime locally.

What itatm, missing the point that you just made a personal attack on me because of a disagreement we had months ago? :))

It's really quite sad that you're using tibby's grief as a vehicle to pursue a personal vendetta.

I feel for tibby, and can understand how distressing it was. I still carry facial scars from a mugging twenty years ago. I was just confused and now have been enlightened.

Huguenot - you didn't sound confused to me - you sounded as if you doubted Tibby's story and were suspicious of it in some way. If you didn't want to sound like that you could have maybe written your posts in a more sensitive way.

PS. I have no connection whatsoever to Tibby/ITATM.

There were two people posting under one name in different styles. You may be surprised but there's plenty of people posting under this forum who have hidden agendas. I simply sought clarification.

The police activity seemed peculiar, charging the victims of crime for the recovery of goods - I was going to advise that if they had the crime number wouldn't this be able to prove to the guys in the impound lot that this is a stolen car, not a parking violation.

If they'd seen Victim Support then as an independent body they might be able to speak to the police on their behalf about getting this 'fine' removed.

Sadly though, one of tibby's friends decided to start sh*t-stirring, tibby her/himself decided to be 'furious' instead of asking me about it, and itatm saw the opportunity to get a mate who would back her up in a vendetta against me on a three month old separate subject.

Just sad, that's all.

    • Or turning left,  continuing on down Forest Hill Road and turning right further up.  Google maps has Dulwich marked at the junction by the old Grove, where the South Circular heads off towards the rest of Dulwich. But whatever, yes you can definitely get to Dulwich by going in the direction shown on the signpost! I'm not sure you would get "anywhere" by going straight down, though, let alone 23 miles down 🤣 I like the "Now here" though!
    • There is no doubt that Labour's doom mongering when it came into office spooked the markets. Plenty of analysts and businesses said so pre-budget. And why the budget was leaked so much before its announcement, I do not know. Honestly, whoever is in charge of comms really needs to get the boot.  I am so sick of hearing them bang on about 14 years of Tory decay - Labour repeatedly pressed the Tories for longer, more astringent lockdowns. It's largely thanks to the furlough scheme that we're in so much debt. I was such a staunch lockdown supporter at the time and now, looking back, it seems draconian. We're still paying the price in so many ways.
    • Dulwich is a slightly ill-defined concept.  I think this definition is "Dulwich Library" via Barry Road
    • And for the crooked temporary Christmas Mail staff... Who I've seen holding envelopes up to the light to check their contents.
