Have to agree Nutty, although the primary schools are getting better, they are still pretty average (Dulwich Village CofE accepted) and secondary schools mmmm, yet all the articles/estate agents go on and on about this, I presume it's the private ones plus the fact that most estate agents are about 17 and have no idea about how good the actual schools are and thus a myth is born to naive planning family couples who haven't really looked at the scores.

And it's not in Zone 2 either.

Stop moaning everyone....it's as good a place as any in London. It has issues etc...it's just a crap piece of journalism in a crap newspaper. But it's free advertising. Just accept it for what it is! Don't take life too seriously Mr/Mrs/Ms East Dulwich!

My chips are tasting strange, what could it be? Great Scott, it's, it's URINE!!!!

Don't think she can be local as Waverley school was long since pulled down and replaced by Harris.

Can't say I've ever seen Sue Perkins around either (though maybe she's keeping a low profile) - I

thought perhaps she meant Jenny Eclair...

Oh come now nutty, this is for readers of The Times.

I think it's brilliant that we have something like Dulwich and Sydenham Woods right here in zone 2.

I like living here - I like the places and the people - I like saying good morning to total strangers and I appreciate the community feel

I don't understand why people who don't like living here don't just move?

I liked it here even when the schools quoted were in special measures

I'm with Curmudgeon. It's a great place.

Now likely to face an influx of Times readers, which will ruin it, of course.

Mmmm... creatively written while looking through rose tinted glasses. Behind every great property page there is a great estate agent.

Of course it's the sort of thing the gullible lap up. The thoughts of women cycling up and down in all their flowery organic loveliness, and rosy cheeked children playing in all the open spaces is a great way to 'talk-up' buying a poky, over priced semi on a crowded Victorian street in a minor South East London suburb, with dodgy transport links. The journalistic equivalent to Harry & Paul's "I Saw You Coming".

Lazy smug hacks seem to constantly big up the hood. Then again, they are hardly likely to describe the place where their 3 bed semi with 40ft garden, loft conversion, period features and GCH ( Not tested )lies, as a crime ridden crack hellhole.

This however can make refreshing change from repetitive, off the shelf articles on glamping or shitty beach huts in Whitstable that these uninspired shitehawks usually churn out.

Strange :))

god, you people are appalling. so desperate to scribble down angst and spite. the paper was being nice about where we live for chrissake1 i live in east dulwich and I like it. and LL IS in se22. if you moaners don't like it here, clear off.none of us will miss you

Puzzled, I'm, um, puzzled by your response.

Reading through the thread there seems to be a mix of people saying they love it round here, people saying the article is a bit OTT and cynics suggesting it's all about property prices. The only real angst is from huncamunca and he's like that about everything. I expect eater81's post was pretty angsty and spiteful, but I didn't see it before it was deleted, so can't say for sure.

Seems a bit harsh to brand everyone as appaling and desperate...

ED is a great area there is no doubt about that and i do agree with annaj about the harshness of what was/is said but do also agree with puzzled too about it being a nice area and respect to him/her for just trying to look out for it.

    • @Pereira Neves "Cuppa with a Coppa" is a misrepresentation as PCSOs are not real police.   They have no more powers of arrest that any public citizen. They may have the "authority" to advise the regular police of a crime - just like Joe Public. One exception is that they can issue fixed penalty notices to people who cycle on a footpath. We see people cycling on the footpath every day but have never seen a PCSO issue a fixed penalty notice to anybody. No  qualifications are needed to become a PCSO.  At best, all they do is reassure and advise the public with platitudes.
    • Right.  Already too many people saying “labour pushed for longer and more stringent lockdowns” which if nothing else, does seem to give credence the notion that yes people can be brainwashed    Nothing ...  Nothing Labour pushed for was about longer lockdowns.  Explicitly, and very clearly they said “lock down early OR we will be locking down for longer “   ie they were trying to prevent the longer lockdowns we had   But “positive thinking” and “nothing to see here” from Johnson led to bigger problems    as for the hand-wavery about the economic inheritance and markets being spooked by labour budget - look - things did get really really and under last government and they tried to hide it.  So when someone tries to address it, no one is going to be happy.  But pretending all was tickety boo is a child’s response
    • What would you have done differently, Rockets? I cannot, for the life of me, think of a financial strategy that would have satisfied 'working people' and businesses and driven growth and reduced the deficit. But I'm no economist. On another note, since we're bashing Labour, one thing that really got my goat was Labour's reaction to  Kemi Badenoch being elected leader of the opposition. When our own dear Ellie Reeves was asked for her reaction to KB's election, the first thing she said was "I'm proud that she's the first black woman to lead a political party, but..." Congratulating someone for being black (she's Nigerian FFS, not 'black') and female is such an insult. You'd be forgiven for thinking that that's all Labour sees... and it completely detracts from her achievements as a politician. It's almost as if they were implying that she'd done well in spite of her race and sex. If that's not racist... I think Kemi is an absolute nut job. People in her own party have said she'd start a brawl in an empty room and would cross the street to bite your ankle. But that kind of makes me like her. And if anyone can hold Labour's feet to the fire, she can.  (Ex labour party member here, who voted Keir for leader of the party, BTW, in case anyone wants to start a pile-on and call me a Tory lover).
    • Their comms has been diabolical. The "son of a toolmaker" and "working people" soundbites may have placated an electorate before an election but they will come back to haunt you after it and will bite you hard if things don't go well.  If they don't improve things soon it is going to be a long parliament for them and there are no signs things are getting better. Amazing as they had 14 years to prepare for this but being in opposition is far, far easier than running a country.
