I'm so close to the end of my task, your jibes can't hurt me now karter. I'm basking in the moral superiority of sobriety.

Have to go out with a friend tonight in gypsy hill and he's the sort who is more interested in food than drink so we have to go for a curry...:(

I prefer to keep my stomach empty to squeeze in as much beer as possible. I'll have a popadom and a table full of Cobra.

Will your period of abstinence run alongside a self-imposed forum exile for the same time frame (on the basis that the forum is at its best/bearable and funniest/less irritating with a stiff livener on the inside)? Or will the forum become your substitute for a post-rush hour whisky and splash?

After this weekend the idea of No-drink-vember is starting to appeal...

I think it might usefully be twinned with a self-imposed temporary forum exile - none of this disappearing and popping up again like Huge and Quids though, the suspense is too much - just a calmly stated intent to forego posting for a fixed period... to see which part of you cracks first.

No-drink-vember starts tomorrow (oh, 73 btw) and I think I may take a stab at it.

Anyone else? Anyone for temporary exile? An edf sabbatical without the comfort of a hot toddy?

We could have a contest - like a tontine but whoever cracks before November 30th loses (loses/wins... nothing but pride in the knowledge one has mastered (a couple of-) one's appetites.

Did I say 73?

ETA: well you might consider it KT616 if only to give Mick Mack's short-term-memory-loss syndrome time to kick in...

    • You can take any old clothes or any other fabric like tea towels  to Primark stores. They all have collection boxes. Any old clothes and rags that can't be reused are recycled for other uses like toy stuffing and insulation
    • Got loads of frogspawn.  Don't have that much success as can't keep it in the pond as the newts eat it.  I took the first clump out yesterday and put it in a bucket with netting on top.  The loads more appeared.,... Last year I kept it like this and then transferred to some large plant saucers when they were near to walking onto land.  Had to top up the water, provide shade as they will have cooked in the sunshine, and fed with boiled cabbage, kale or other green stuff. I got a few froglets.  two or three years ago I picked up some spawn from someone in SE22 who had a whole nursery, numerous ponds, in their back garden. Never seen any baby newts or spawn, maybe have ten or more, but I know they go roaming.
    • Newts, ducks, from my understanding cats and dogs don't eat frogspawn, they may eat tadpoles.  Continuing this conversation on the nature thread.
    • You lose the moral high ground as soon as you call people clowns.  I don't know why so many of you have to bring the conversation down,  I've made the same point on other threads.  Have a look at what you posted - do you think insults made your view any more valid?  Sadly too many discussions descend in this way.  As said this applies to many others who post here. I can, and do, complain, about a variety of goods and services.  In the last 20 years or so try to keep it civil.  And look back on some of my past behaviours with some embarrassment.
