Can't believe it! Our 4-5pm shopping hasn't turned up and after holding on the phone for 30 mins and being cut off several times, turns out the van hasn't left the store yet and they won't be able to deliver today at all! So there's no milk, no nappies, no bread.... And they hadn't even realised, as far as I can tell, that the van isn't out and about delivering, and certainly haven't had the decency to call and warn us and apologise!

Appalling.

Sorry to hear this, but must admit I have found this information useful as I always go out grocery shopping

and have been wondering about online grocery orders.

Only do online shopping for clothes, bits and bobs on ebay and my baking supplies but I have been considering

online grocery shopping lately. Would you say this was an isolated incident ? Are they generally reliable ?

Who is usually the best ?

Would love to do this for Christmas this year. Christmas shopping is a nightmare in the stores.

I too gave up on Sainsbury's home delivery after numerous problems with orders (missing items, orders not arriving, bizarre substitutes... sorry, we don't have chicken today, but have some delicious smoked salmon roulades instead...)

I've used Tesco for years, generally they are very good and I've felt they are improving all the time - now do 1 hour slots like Ocado, bring shoppping into your kitchen etc etc. I've had occasions where they've been late but have always been phoned to warn me. Sorry to hear about your experience today Fuschia, what a nightmare.

Don't know whether it makes a difference, but I always get my shopping delivered early in the day (generally sometime before 9am) - in the past any problems I have had were with late afternoon/evening deliveries.

How hugely annoying! We've used Ocado for quite a few years and have never ever experienced any unreliability, other than very occasionally being offered a replacement item for something that was out of stock (maybe once every couple of months). Currently having big arguments with my other half about whether or not it really IS much more expensive than alternatives. He goes to Sainsbury's and definitely spends ?30 less but comes back without nappies, baby milk, wetwipes etc.... so I've never had much luck actually comparing apples with apples. My gut feeling is that Ocado is probably not much more expensive, and if it did come out at a fiver more a week, that would be justified by convenience, reliability, easy and speed of shopping etc. Now I just need to convince my husband....
We used to use Tescos. They were usually ok but felt that the quality of fresh produce like fruit and vegetables was always really poor when you get them online. Have now been with Ocado for about a year and haven't had any problems. The driver also normally gives you a call on your mobile to let you know they'll be with you in half an hour, etc.
We use Tesco delivery and have had no problems either with items or deliveries. Fruit and vegetables always fresh, rarely unable to provide items, and when this happens providing an alternative if we want it. We actually live on the third floor and the delivery men always bring the shopping up and into our kitchen without complaint - no mean feat!

That sounds familiar Amberwood !;-)

Whenever my husband comes home from shopping there are also no nappies, wipes and sometimes not

even enough shopping for an evening meal. Keep trying to explain that we can't live on newspapers

and fruit loaf.

If I go shopping he complains I don't get 'the things he likes' and a family of 5 shop is quite a

circus at times. So just last week I thought wouldn't it be great if we could all gather around the

PC and click on our chosen items so no one misses out and we don't have to deal with any grocery

shop tantrums .

Sounds like Ocado and Tesco are the better choices. I might have a go on Monday (tu)

I have to say that Ocado is great. They have also gone above and beyond to accomodate me when I had to leave the house at the last minute. My son needed a trip to a and e and the driver kept in touch with me. He transferred my groceries to another driver when I wasn't going to be back by the end of his shift. That person then transferred the groceries to yet ANOTHER driver when I was stuck at Kings for almost 4 hours. They never complained or charged me extra. I have had one substitution in a year and I had edited the order at 11pm the night before and it was only to change the brand of frozen vegetables. I will say that I sometimes think I spend more but it is because I end up adding extras to my shop that I wouldnt see/remember at Sainsburys. This past week they had pampers products two for one and I got 2 six packs of wipes for the price of one. I also got a large Fairy laundry detergent two for one. In the end with other savings I saved 24 pounds on my shop. The website alerts you to sales/deals they have on and also match Tesco prices on many products. In addition, if you are willing to have a later evening delivery they are often free. I have used Sainsburys in the past for delivery and this is honestly night and day. I would not go back.

I had a shocking experience with Tesco delivery several years back now - I was hosting a Thanksgiving dinner at my place and was expecting the order (frozen turkey and all) with enough time to defrost it. The order didn't turn up on the day and when I phoned customer services they told me that they had scheduled too many deliveries in that slot and hadn't got around to me. The best I could hope for, they told me, was a replacement the day after Thanksgiving (three days after the original order). When I tried to explain the situation they were unmoved and I ended up having to take a day off work to get all the food I had ordered for my 16 guests.

After that, I switched to Ocado and have never looked back - they turn up on time and rarely substitute.

Ocado is fantastic. You can pay the equivalent of ?9 per month and then, provided you buy at least ?40 worth of stuff you can have as many deliveries as you want without paying any extra - you can also reserve a particular time slot every week and set up a regular delivery - so if you know that you will always need nappies etc you can set up a regular time for those to be delivered every week. I find that I actually save money using online shopping because I am not tempted by offers in the supermarket on things which on the spur of the moment I think I will find a use for. It can now take me less than 5 minutes to do the shopping online - I certainly would not go back to schlepping round the supermarket and losing at least an hour out of my weekend!

Worked for Sainsburys online shopping service. They were a nightmare department totally disorganised, they do there picking instore.

Tried Asda home shopping, and was laid up in bed with food poisoning for two days and had a 4 month old baby to care for. husband rung up to politely report it, and they were not interested.

Used Ocado, Fantastic. One hour delivery slots never had any substitutions. if they dont have it in stock they will tell you at point of ordering.

Another vote for Ocado, you can't beat them!

Very rare to get substitutions, one hour delivery slots which they stick too, friendly helpful delivery drivers.

Loads of items are price matched to Tesco and they have good offers which are easy to find, the iphone App works really well too :-)

I spent more when I went to Sainsbury's and did it myself!

Another for Ocado! they always let you know if they're going to be late _ HARDLY ever. And there's not often anything missing/swapped.

They're always wending vouchers offering 15% off your shop as well which brings the cost down.

Wouldn't swap for another.

Yep, Ocado get our vote too (although I'm not that impressed by their change to the discount vouchers - GCSE maths is sufficient to tell that one full price order and 25% off the next is 12.5% overall, and you pay for two deliveries...). We tried Tesco recently and they were beyond useless, I can't even bring myself to spend the voucher they sent to apologise for their total failure to turn up.

I have to say that after using Tesco for over two years I have very few complaints. They call if they are running late/early and have never missed a delivery. I used to use Ocado but Tesco is much cheaper (with a bit of savvy shopping) and the quality of products is usually very good. Much as I would like to continue using Ocado once I went on one of those supermarket comparison websites I could not justify spending around ?25 more for same shop

I will try Sainsburys this week I think as I have a voucher somewhere

Another vote for Ocado! They do Tesco price match on many items and because I cook a lot from scratch they have the ingredients that I require unlike Tesco or Sainsbury's. Also I like the fact that they group where the food should be stored into colour co-ordinated shopping bags! My only wish would be that you didn't have to spend a minimum of ?75 to be able to use their 15% voucher they offer every now and again.
Tescos always been great for us - although I agree they don't pick the best fruit/veg (our large pumpkin was TEENY) - and they did substitute some bizarre wine in our last (pre-party) order so we had 4 bottles for same price as 16 - sent them all back. On whole though am impressed; OH would love to use Ocado but it's so much pricier?!

ocado rocks.

tesco price match on almost all big branded stuff.

rarely have missing/replaced items.

wonderfully helpful and polite delivery people and helpline.

rang them once to ask if i could bring my delivery forward and they rang driver and he turned up 20 minutes later after calling me to check it was convenient.

oh and the mobile app is fab for adding things as you remember them when you're out and about.

no going back for me!

Ocado here as well (having just got too annoyed by Tesco and Sainsbury).

1 hour slots, invariably helpful, never substitute, Tesco price match. I also often only order the day before and can always get a slot.

I have the annual pass so I get as many free deliveries as I like, with a minimum ?40 order.
