Thank you, offical cake photographer!

Though I would have preferred red and white of course!

That icing - notwithstanding being the colours of a team currently positioned seventh (*snigger*) in the premier league tables - was absolutely delicious. Yum!

Not as lucky as 3! Which is where man U are at present!!!!

The photographer? Ah tres bon! Je m'en r'appelle maintenant. Trop de Sambuca hier soir...mais que c'est delicieux...ah oui! Aujourdhui...seulement de leau...

Comment va ta tete? Et ta jambe?

If everyone in the WI was like Helen Mirren I think I would be ok with it. I really enjoy "traditional feminine pursuits", jam making, sewing etc, but I also like getting raucously drunk and talking c*ck. I find these aspects of my personality had to reconcile in polite meetings.

Thank you for coming back Peckhampam - very helpful of you.

I'm all sorted now - should have updated this thread (sorry, I was in a bit of a tizz earlier). Cate, another forumite, came to the rescue on another thread (suggested vinegar). It worked! Bread out of oven and half eaten. Not sure if it is as it it meant to be - crusty base and top - but it's very tasty. Delicious in fact. Ate it warm with some garlic and herb butter and pumpkin soup.

Peckhampam, I should have said earlier, but the recipe already had bicarb in it. Would more bicarb still have been fine? (Just curious).

BTW, bread grew to about twice it's size - it's MASSIVE! Didn't expect that.

Once again, cheers for posting.

Well I like to cook but my home cooking seems to have diminished somewhat since we came to the UK, less free time on my hands I guess. Must try harder to change that.

And it was nice to meet you properly too, pity I had to bow out at the CPT but I had work the next day, sounds like it was a good night.

    • Using the smart CCTV cameras is your best strategy - particularly if they have adequate infra-red capability. Setting them to be triggered by line crossing or areas of intrusion is worthwhile setting up as is linking them to a PIR sensor. The PIR could also be used to activate a sounder but that might upset your other neighbours. I have a few cameras around our property and I enjoy reviewing the recordings and apart from foxes and birds, I catch the occasional opportunistic thief on camera - like this one last Tuesday. If you need any help, please drop me a PM. S7.mp4
    • Not in Ed, but I was in NE England over the weekend and saw an otter in the wild! Never seen one before, it was quite lovely.
    • Well unless the heron got them later, there were the  two cootlets. I think some others of this year's babies must have escaped the heron. Many years ago (and possibly still, though I never see them any more) there was a whole heron family on the island  - mum, dad and youngster. I don't know how long herons live. Maybe this one is the grown up youngster.
    • Neighbourhood police, they often get called in for neighbourhood 'disputes', although if you have been Southwark ASBU perhaps you have already explored this
