Sky losing all Discovery channels including Eurosport from Wednesday

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised that no one appears to have posted this anywhere. Apologies if I have missed the thread. As of the 1st Feb (next Wednesday) no Discovery channels will be available to Sky viewers. This includes Eurosport 1 and 2 with the tennis and cycling franchises and most of the winter sport. According to Sky it is because Discovery are demanding ?1B (yes a billion pounds) to show their channels and Sky are refusing to pay such a sum. Negotiations continue but no one seems optimistic of a settlement.

Hi Rolo. Does the app play in HD or low resolution. I would struggle to enjoy watching most sport in SD.

The offer for ?20 instead of ?60 seems deliberately timed by Discovery to expire the moment that the Sky contract ends. If a deal with Sky is done at the last minute then anybody will have signed up for no reason. I do like the cycling during the summer and the family like the tennis. I find it's getting difficult to get a range of sport on one package.

    • We also just used Paul and his colleauge Damien to replace some fans, fix loose kitchen light, and check smoke detectors.  Straight forward, skilled and very decent guys.  Even tolerated some heckling from the kids.
    • Went past yesterday there was one man skating. It was a good use of a derelict site, but hopefully it won’t be if Southwark Council  and Dulwich estates sort it out. Compulsory purchase anyone?
    • The younger (and some older) people have taken an unused unloved space and made it their own. Where do we think young people should go? I was involved in a campaign with a group of younger people a few years ago to get a skate park built. I was so shocked by the backlash and nastiness from a vocal 'adult' few. The young people themselves said that they are told they shouldn't spend all their time on screens and yet when they come together and do something that is physical that involves socialising and positive connection they get slated for it. The skating community is so welcoming and supportive. Come on people - see the bigger picture and the positives. They've made a good place to be out of nothing - they are recycling and building and being creative and social and entrepreneurial. I suggest we reflect on what the real issue is here. Have a look at this -
