KateW
Hi all. I'm 39+6 today and had a cervical sweep yesterday around 4.30pm. I know they don't work for everyone but I was just wondering how many ED ladies have had success with them and if so, how long did it take for labour to get going? pommie
two days before my daughter was born i went into hospital as i was having contractions. The nurse examined me and then politely told me she had given me a sweep. Needless to say i was back in hospital early the following morning in agony and my daughter was born the following day so it definitely helped me. I was in agony after she did it tho Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14028-did-a-cervical-sweep-work-for-you/#findComment-376853 Share on other sites

buggie
I was meant to have sweeps from 38/39 wks (also due to gestational diabetes) but my cervix was always too closed/posterior to do it. Last attempt was when I was 39+3/40, I then went into labour the next evening and my baby was born less than 48hrs later. Thus, don't be disheartened if they say they can't do a sweep when attempted as things can change quickly!! :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14028-did-a-cervical-sweep-work-for-you/#findComment-376871 Share on other sites
Mellors
No. Had about 3/4 of them with both children, as well as all the reflexology, acupuncture etc etc. Nothing shifted them and they both came out at 42 weeks of their own accord. Lochie
Didn't work for me, I was told that they only are effective if you are very close to being in labour anyway....i.e. if your cervix is ripe and soft or whatever the termonoogy is (probably got that completely wrong!) Knomester
I had 4 or 5 including a pretty aggressive one at King's at 42 + 1. Sadly none of them worked and neither did the acupuncture, long walks, etc, etc. I truly believe a baby will come when he/she is ready. For Baby Knomester that wasn't until 42+4 by c-section - he just wasn't for coming! supergolden88
Worked for me first time around and within 30mins but I was already 3cm by having contractions the night before which eventually stopped. I have one booked for 40+5wks on Weds but kind of hope baby will come of his own accord before then Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14028-did-a-cervical-sweep-work-for-you/#findComment-376986 Share on other sites
Gubodge
Nope, and I had three. She was 3 weeks late. So I didn't bother with #2 who was two weeks over. IMO the only way you can hurry a baby who isn't yet ready is induction or section. Dulwich Born And Bred
I had one and it did not work, baby ended up two weeks late, had an induction and he still refused to come out, in the end he was forced out by ventouse delivery. I believe a baby will come when he wants (or else he is forced out by c section/ventouse). Saffron
Get married on your due date... guaranteed to get the baby out. We were married on my due date, and Little Saff was born the next day. Wedding pressures are certain to get things moving!(Alternatively, you could try the sweep. It may/may not help, but it's unlikely to do any harm... though some of my girl friends said they were painful... so maybe it's not worth it in that case.) nozchik
I dont know if it was sweep, sex or curry worked, we tried everything on my due date but baby came the next day :))). Emski
Didn't work for me, think I had a couple of attempted ones. The first time the midwife couldn't reach it, can't remember whether subsequent one(s) any more successful.Eventually went into labour 9 days over after acupuncture.
