Dogkennelhillbilly
Do you say "thank you" to the driver as you get off the bus?(Only a deviant would say thanks to the driver on a double decker bus, for obvious reasons). Angelina
what are 'the obvious reasons' for not thanking the driver? We always say hello and thank you...they are people, after all..... siousxiesue
My criteria is as follows-If you exit the bus at the front, I.E right next to the driver, it's normal to say thanks/cheers etc.On a double decker I don't say anything, but sometimes raise an arm getting off, because they will be looking so they can close the door. Sue
Yes on single deckers.Don't on double deckers (don't know why) but my grandkids always do when they are in London, which I find quite endearing (don't know what the drivers make of it though!) Nigello
I always say "hello" to the driver when I get on but very rarely say thanks on the way out. I doubt they can hear you on most services, though on the smaller vehicles they may well be able to do so. Speaking of etiquette, it's a bit annoying when folk get off at the front of the smaller buses. I get it if they are elderly/carrying children etc. (Dr Watson and his fellow passengers on the bus in the last episode of Sherlock did exactly that, on a double decker. Makes me wonder whether any of the production staff or actors have ever ridden a bus in London!) teddyboy23
That same bus driver could be one of them f"""kers.that sees you running towards the bus he waits at the bus stop until your almost there .then slams into turbo drive and drives off.leaving you standing there like a doughnut.well funny😬 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/139174-an-important-p4p13-etiquette-question/#findComment-1095089 Share on other sites

rendelharris
With way too much time on my hands I went and had a look and you're dead right - a whole line of people getting off the front door of a normal bus as if it's standard practice! I suspect your suspicions may be right. Laddy Muck
I do too. Somehow the single decker buses feel to me as though I'm boarding a "special" private bus (just for me!!). I say "hello" to the double-decker drivers too, especially if they have saved my bacon, though if the bus is too packed then I will not necessarily say anything on disembarking. Why? I've absolutely no idea! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/139174-an-important-p4p13-etiquette-question/#findComment-1095609 Share on other sites
