scarletfiasco
Does anyone out there cook anything other than fairy cakes with kids? DD licks the bowl and likes it but I feel bad always cooking sweet things with her..... damzel
The ready made rolled puff pastry is great for making tomato and cheesey rolls, puff pizza's, twists, all sorts. Easy to hide the spinach too Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13904-cooking-ideas-anyone/#findComment-374432 Share on other sites

cate
Soup, like potato and leek and let them use a hand liquidiser. Banana bread is always good and they can smash the bananas with a potato masher. There are some good low fat and sugar recipes out there. You can also substitute applesauce for some butter. mockney piers
The much maligned "I Can Cook" on cbeebies is full of ideas, though admittedly I'd rather they did cauliflower cheese than asparagus frittata, but you can't have everything.Katy....*sighs* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13904-cooking-ideas-anyone/#findComment-374468 Share on other sites

cate
Here is a link to a really easy tasty banana bread. It's also very good toasted with butter and keeps for quite a few days well wrapped. Nice with cream cheese as well. I would suggest making two and let the bananas get really brown before using. http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/banana_bread/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13904-cooking-ideas-anyone/#findComment-374554 Share on other sites

Pickle
Thanks for sharing the banana bread recipe Cate, we've just filled in 20 minutes mashing bananas and having a fun time mixing and it's in the oven now. Seems too easy to be true, 49 minutes until we can test it. Now I'm off to de-flour my kitchen... damzel
Funny, we've just done the same thing. It smells delicious but we have another 30 mins to wait yet hmmmmm. Pickle
Mmmmmmmmmm. the banana bread recipe is a winner! Delicious. I'm sure it does keep well for a couple of days, but I doubt it will last that long (off to cut myself another slice, kids happily munching away) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13904-cooking-ideas-anyone/#findComment-374671 Share on other sites
purplepumpkin
Kids and me just made the butternut squash crumble from that hatties kitchen site - thanks for that link. If the top gets too brown then cover with foil and/or turn oven down a bit. Loaf pan size, type , material can change how it cooks as can oven temp. You can add ingredients to it but I prefer it without add-ins. It also freezes well. If you have surfeit of bananas going brown you can also freeze them and then use them another day. Just defrost for a couple of hours at room temperature before using. LeilahB
There is a cookery class for 2-5 year olds at Rosendale CC on Mondays at 10am which is absolutely great - they get all the kids cooking a savoury and a sweet (last time it was ghost-shaped pizzas and pumpkin muffins) and then they sit down and have an early lunch. Very popular so good to get there early for a place, but we've found it really fun and a really good way of trying new foods/recipes Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13904-cooking-ideas-anyone/#findComment-375288 Share on other sites
