zeban
Waitrose also does very good reductions at the end of the day, unlike many supermarkets- Morrisons being one of the worst. zeban
Thanks for the tip Nancy.Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I love it around here and would never ever move back to North London if you paid me BUT a Waitrose somewhere in the vicinity- it doesn't have to be Dulwich, it could be Peckham, Camberbell, Elephant and Castle, I don't really care. Then maybe I wouldn't have to deal with the awful music they play in Morrisons just to buy a bag of quinoa. nancyse15
Try the Waitrose at Canary Wharf, it's a joy to shop there. Also I think there is one in Beckenham. Neither are too bad to get to by car... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13822-iceland-eyesore/page/6/#findComment-374370 Share on other sites

Nicholas
Theres a Waitrose in Mottingham Dartford and Biggin Hill and those areas are far from up market. All this fuss Waitrose is just a nice place to shop and not much more expensive then say Morrisons.I'm surprised that ED hasn't got one. After all most of like John Lewis. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13822-iceland-eyesore/page/6/#findComment-374377 Share on other sites
zeban
I don't have a car Nancy, I can't afford one, but I would still like to spend my few quid on good food which is why I need one locally- or at least in central ish South East London :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13822-iceland-eyesore/page/6/#findComment-374397 Share on other sites
ImpetuousVrouw
I'm sure Iceland was one of the first supermarkets to ban GM products from it's own brand food. mockney piers
Not really, just good marketing. Every study ever here shows that the British Public isnt yet reconciled with the idea of GM foods, probably influenced by lots of headlines with the word Frankenstein in them. KalamityKel
Has someone notified Iceland that they're on the move?nice thread - worth the giggle at silly attitudes of people. How many are residents of ED or the village are there commenting here? come on own up! ;-)yes I'm being sarcastic! Cassius
Not madly wild about Waitrose fruit and veg - Lidl is much much cheaper (although you do have to take what they have) but Waitrose is a far nicer shopping experience. The aisles are wider, the staff are more friendly and the wine selection is superior to other supermarkets. Iceland does have fantastic offers on things like t-bags and other stock items such as sugar are also very reasonable. I'd rather save where I can on some items so that I can afford to splurge on others. Each to their own I guess. The Minkey
Popped in to see my elderly house-bound neighbour this morning. She had just popped her dinner into the oven: Roast chicken, potatos, peas, carrots and a small sausagey thing - all out of a box from Iceland, ?1.50. Wouldn't be my choice but it's ideal for people like her who live on their own, can't get out, and rely largely on what's in their freezer to keep them going through the week. The Minkey
Yes, she prefers it out of the oven to out of the microwave. Earl Aelfheah
It's ridiculous that Waitrose don't own a single store with an 'SE' postcode. What's that about? Personally I'd like to see one in ED, or somewhere nearby.Would be funny if they opened one in Peckham, just for of the indignation it would cause amongst ED residents. The original post was clearly trolling by the way. Must have touched on something though as we're still talking about it 5 pages later. concita
Budget stores look horrible in UK, but in Germany/France, Greece stores, like Aldi, Lidl, Netto, are well kept outside and inside and it is a pleasure to shop. Overseas these shops, which in UK are considered discount stores, are at the same level as Carrefour and AUCHAN. I have been to some during holidays and have found they are kept in better conditions than their correspondent in UK. Some of their food are better quality than the one sold in other major stores in UK. concita
I hate the music too, but it is a way to make you going around and shop more. Your mind gets distracted by the music and you forget even why you went into the shop in the first place and buy something else instead. Moos
Phew, glad you took it well...
