Thanks for the tip Nancy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I love it around here and would never ever move back to North London if you paid me BUT a Waitrose somewhere in the vicinity- it doesn't have to be Dulwich, it could be Peckham, Camberbell, Elephant and Castle, I don't really care. Then maybe I wouldn't have to deal with the awful music they play in Morrisons just to buy a bag of quinoa.

Theres a Waitrose in Mottingham Dartford and Biggin Hill and those areas are far from up market.

All this fuss Waitrose is just a nice place to shop and not much more expensive then say Morrisons.

I'm surprised that ED hasn't got one. After all most of like John Lewis.

Not madly wild about Waitrose fruit and veg - Lidl is much much cheaper (although you do have to take what they have) but Waitrose is a far nicer shopping experience. The aisles are wider, the staff are more friendly and the wine selection is superior to other supermarkets. Iceland does have fantastic offers on things like t-bags and other stock items such as sugar are also very reasonable. I'd rather save where I can on some items so that I can afford to splurge on others. Each to their own I guess.

FWIW mine was in what I took as the spirit of the OP - I was poking fun at the snobs. But I'm starting to doubt whether the OP was a wind-up after all!

Either troll or very very sad

Popped in to see my elderly house-bound neighbour this morning. She had just popped her dinner into the oven: Roast chicken, potatos, peas, carrots and a small sausagey thing - all out of a box from Iceland, ?1.50. Wouldn't be my choice but it's ideal for people like her who live on their own, can't get out, and rely largely on what's in their freezer to keep them going through the week.

Was she slow-cooking the ready meal?

It's ridiculous that Waitrose don't own a single store with an 'SE' postcode. What's that about? Personally I'd like to see one in ED, or somewhere nearby.

Would be funny if they opened one in Peckham, just for of the indignation it would cause amongst ED residents.

The original post was clearly trolling by the way. Must have touched on something though as we're still talking about it 5 pages later.

Budget stores look horrible in UK, but in Germany/France, Greece stores, like Aldi, Lidl, Netto, are well kept outside and inside and it is a pleasure to shop. Overseas these shops, which in UK are considered discount stores, are at the same level as Carrefour and AUCHAN. I have been to some during holidays and have found they are kept in better conditions than their correspondent in UK. Some of their food are better quality than the one sold in other major stores in UK.

    • Just seen them! Moved into Barry Rd 33 years ago and remember watching dozens of them in the sky as we sat in the back garden the first evening. Look out for them every year. Lifts your spirits when they arrive.
    • Aleksandra was the driving force behind the conversion of what was a nice but very outdated house into what is now my beautiful, vibrant and modern home. I cannot recommend her enough- she was a pleasure to work with- she has an uncanny eye for detail and her sense of style is unparalleled. She knew where to push me beyond my “safe beige” colours but always kept my personality and preferences in mind. She sourced fabric / colours / lighting designs , she found local options for spectacular interior ideas in the kitchen , display cabinets , bathrooms , bedrooms and wardrobes. She never went beyond budget and was very timely in her execution. The result was a beautiful home that even after 8 years looks as stunning as it did when first put together. It is as liveable as it is beautiful and none of it would have been possible with Alexandra. I truly could not recommend her highly enough- there are few people with her work ethic and style. Thank you Alexandra !
    • The Lib Dems are against tightening visa requirements to live in the UK and against shrinking the university sector, and also (at least in Dulwich) against housing being built if it means that foreign students live in it. 🤷
