dulwichpsychology
An 8-week course run on Fridays ? Starting in AprilThis is a novel course which draws on a number of different approaches involving mindfulness and self-compassion. There will be a focus on developing a kinder way of relating to ourselves especially during stressful or emotionally charged times. We can often be incredibly hard on ourselves instead of being encouraging which can lead to more stress, anxiety, low mood, anger and guilt. During the course there will be an emphasis on getting unstuck from these negative thinking and feeling cycles. The sessions will combine practices from Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Courses, Mindful Self Compassion, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy. During the eight weeks you will be taught new skills, take part in experiential exercises such as meditations and breathing exercises and you will have a chance to take part in group discussions to enhance your learning and experience of self-compassion and mindfulness. Studies of courses with similar content have shown improvements in life satisfaction and decreased levels of depression, anxiety and stress in participants. The course is open to all participants. You do not need to have any background in mindfulness or meditation. It is not a therapy group ? if you think that you would benefit from therapy sessions which are based on Compassion and Mindfulness or CBT, please contact me to discuss.Course Times:Option A: Friday Mornings 10.15am-12.15pmOption B: Friday Evenings 7.15pm-9.15pmCourse Dates:21st April, 28th April, 5th May, 12th May, 19th May, 26th May, 2nd June and 9th JuneFees: ? 295Location: Woodwarde Road, SE22 How to enrol: Please contact me at [email protected] and I will send you a registration formAbout Me: I am a clinical psychologist and have worked in the NHS for many years. I now work exclusively in private practice in Dulwich. My training background is in cognitive behaviour therapy and systemic (family) therapy but I have now specialised in approaches which are often called Third Wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. These therapies include Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy. I am passionate about using mindfulness and self-compassion in therapy and regularly practice the meditations and exercises commonly used in these approaches myself.
