Is due to reopen having been refurbished any time soon. To me it looks really nice and the manager, Nathalie showed me a "draft" copy of the menu which looked really nice and not unreasonably priced. Of course there will be moans of "another spit-and-sawdust old man's pub has disppeared" but I don't care!

Opening delayed because the chef had some personal issues and had to go home (I think she said to another country). But she said it should be open this week sometime.

I stand to be corrected, but was the Wishing Well featured in the film "Last Orders" with Michael Caine, Helen Mirren, and Bob Hoskins ? (film royalty in more ways than one)

I go past the Montpelier daily and am really hoping that it will be a friendly, good food pub - will prob have the same teething trouble as The Plough, but nothing a hike in prices (albeit unfortunate) and see-through windows can't fix

Tillie - you can induce a "madeleine moment" by having someone waft a pint of beer shandy and a players no6 under your nose; it'll all come flooding back. This happens to me involuntarily every time i walk past a scottish working men's clubhouse bar.

Ultraconsultancy

Its about time they did something with that pub, it has so much potential. Apart from food, they could get involved with the comedy circuit, put on live music, the place is a goldmine with the right imagination/intelligence running it. Its time Peckham started going a bit upmarket. We've got the Gowlett and the Rye (which thinks its in the West End the prices it charges). Great, please keep me informed about the Mont.
Hoorah! It's great - lovely staff, good selection of wine (and beers), a menu that's unpretentious but well-executed - and very reasonably priced. My fish cakes were excellent (served on wilted spinach in a lovely sauce and a perfect poached egg on top); while the chips I stole from hubby's plate (to accompany an excellent burger) were really good. The bill came to less than fifteen pounds for the two of us. Will return ... My only fear is that it is too close to home!

I popped along for a spot of Sunday lunch and found the place very much a work-in-progress. Drilling still ongoing, sound systems being put in etc

Plus I was the only one there for best part of an hour

All that said, some others arrived, I ordered my food which was lovely. The bar staff were really sweet and friendly. The space is really very nice with a great wooden floor. The toilets, however, have yet to be refurbed

Price for a San Miguel was ?3.20 - the roast dinner came in at under a tenner and was a very nice piece of beef with fine veg and proper Yorkshire pud

So even tho it's a bit out of my way there are enough reasons to be around Bellenden from time to time to make this worth another visit

Went after the cinema yesterday, and was impressed. Nice atmosphere, lovely stripped floorboards and chocolate brown everywhere. I had the burger, my wife had the fishcakes (B.B - snap..)

Wine list good as well, candles made it cozy and staff welcoming

Popped in for a guiness this evening as well - lots of people "checking" it out.

Good stuff
