CatJennings
We just moved to Herne Hill (off of Half Moon Lane) and I'm looking to find some charitable weekend activities for my girls (4 years old / 9 years old) and I in the neighbourhood. (e.g. care home help, working in a soup kitchen, tending to homeless animals, etc.) Any recommendations gratefully received! Judie
Hi CatTry Dulwich Helpline, they are based in the old Dulwich Hospital and they help older people. Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches CareOverviewBoth Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches Care were founded in 1993 to help older (60+) residents living in two adjoining areas in Southwark to continue to participate in their communities, even when they found getting out increasingly difficult. In 2012 the two charities amalgamated and decided to expand their area of operation to most areas in Southwark in order to offer sustainable services to isolated older residents.DH&SCC works to improve the quality of life and the physical and mental health of isolated older residents in Southwark. Including dementia.by recruiting and supporting volunteers to befriend them and provide emotional and practical support, andby organising community and group activities for themThey combat loneliness and we enable older people to live in their own homes for as long as possible.Becoming a DH&SCC service-user is free of charge. To benefit from any of their services you must be 60 or over and reside in Southwark.Contact DetailsPhone: 020 8299 2623Email: [email protected]Website: http://www.dhscc.orgAddress: Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches Care, Dulwich Community Hospital, East Dulwich Grove, London, SE22 8PT Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/136308-seeking-charity-work/#findComment-1088777 Share on other sites
RWellman
You could consider hosting teas with Contact the Elderly then the children can help bake and host the elderly guests. My friend does it and she has a 2 year old Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/136308-seeking-charity-work/#findComment-1088800 Share on other sites
