Sainsburys etc no staff to bag up at checkout V poor effort imho

Recommended Posts

It does make me angry here we are buying our Christmas food & what are the supermarkets doing to help us with the several hundred pound shop? Fook all ...

Would be good to give a few youngsters some pre Christmas work bagging up at the checkout.

Maybe it's down to the employment laws?

Really Crap imho

If you are by yourself with a lot of shopping, as you probably would be at this time of year, it is very difficult indeed to "bag up yourself" while you are still taking items out of your trolley and putting them on the belt.

And making sure you are ready to pay but haven't put your card or cash or purse somewhere where it could get nicked while you are dealing with the shopping.

It is a massive help if there are staff available to help with packing.

Try asking for help. Say you've got a bad wrist or something = they'll get someone to pack for you as they want you out of the way. Whatever you do - just be nice - the staff must be under a lot of pressure this time of year.

Well...unless you go to a nice shop and then they'll actually want to help.

I like Waitrose in Canary Wharf on Sunday as it's pretty empty.

I prefer to bag my own stuff..

Then I put the heavy stuff at the bottom (Potatoes) and the light stuff on top (Bread)

I separate toiletries from food stuff.

Keeping all frozen stuff together to help keep it frozen..

If you let the packers do it.. It all gets mixed up..

*Interesting article on BBC on (Rip-off Britain..) Re reusing bags results in bacteria building up in bags and cross contamination.

**(Awaits usual request to reveal my source and give proof and evidence..)

US supermarkets used to have baggers but not many of them do now, at least in big cities. I can see that it would help things move along more quickly (resulting in happier staff and customers and perhaps higher turnover) so the idea of having your goods bagged would be welcome to me, especially in the age of "remove item from baggage area".

I think Otta keeps a consistent (if not slightly put on) air of general grumpiness across social media - it's admirable

Nah, do it properly

Potatoes on Bread - Squashing the bread, raw meat with cooked stuff, carton of cream at the top to fall off and go everywhere. Ice next to warm chicken so it'll melt.

and never plan - just flaunt around picking up what you fancy :)

I think at one point I did go through a genuinely grumpy spell. And I quite liked it, so kept it up ;-)

    • My food bin….still not collected….
    • A huge thank you to Julian Richards for fitting our custom wardrobes in two of our bedrooms, we are so happy with the results, they really feel a 'part of the room', super integrated with the space. Julian was a joy to work with, extremely helpful talking through the various options to help make decisions around the look and feel of the wardrobes vs the storage space, and approaches the build in a very methodically and logical manner, ensuring all our needs are taken into account to deliver a space that works for us and our lives. An excellent carpenter and a pleasure to have in the house. I highly recommend working with Julian!
