I think the latter is called an " au pair plus " and they can actually cost even more-dep on hours- but they are ones with more expereince and you would let them look after children for more than a few hours- can be ?200. But otherwise as Duwich Mum says.

I think the pay & the hours for your au pair/au pair plus also depend on whether you get your au pair privately or through an agency and whether your au pair is a EU national or requires a visa to enter the UK. If you get an EU national au pair directly e.g. through one of the non-agency website you have more freedom to negotiate the hours & the pay as the visa/agency restriction don't "apply". According to our au pairs, it seems that for the regular 25hrs/week the common pocket money is ?65-70/week as dulwichmum said. Here are a few links for further info if you're interested:

You should never try to use an aupair as a nanny. About 5 hours of childcare a day - ideal for the school run and to care for your children until you return from work. Aupairs are not cheap nannies and should never be left unsupervised to care for babies - I think the minimum age is something like two and a half. They come here to study. If a child is older than seven, think very carefully about the level of English you expect from your aupair as if they need to support your child with homework, good English is essential.

An aupair is a great big sister for little children - especially if both parents wish to avoid trampoline duty...

I wouldn't bother with agencies, I have used both of the local ones and they are both rubbish. I find aupairworld.com to be a great little website. We have found our last two aupairs on there.
