My partner was mugged at knife point by three lads at around 6.30 - 7pm last night on the newly paved bit (outside the main park) near the exercise area/skateboard park. He's fine if shaken.

He was cycling up the hill and each lad was hidden behind a separate tree as you go up the rye. He swerved the first two but the last lad managed to push him off his bike. One lad then held a knife to his stomach and insisted he hand over his bag/phone and phone code.

This was reported to the police and they responded very quickly.

We all walk and cycle through our lovely park at this time of the evening and I don't want to scare anyone but thought we should all just be extra vigilant and aware.

(If anyone finds a discarded green ruck sack or some keys in the park please let me know.)

Be safe. Xxx

Was this yesterday or the evening before- it's just I run everyday around the outside of Peckham rye at about this time

On Wednesday evening I saw 3 white guys- not young but quite bulky looking and a cyclist ( at the exact area you describe). The situation looked a little odd to me but I presumed it was fine as there was no obvious signs of trouble

Don't know if the two situations are related or not but just thought I would mention

Oh no, I did hear something at just that time around Peckham Rye last night but I believe it was further down the Rye from where you describe.

I was cycling on the road at the bottom end of the Rye (just coming past the Rye pub and towards the East Dul Road junction to continue up the Rye). I heard a shout/ scream and then a "F*** off!" that seemed to come from either the road on the other side of the triangle or from within the park. Not sure if it was male or female but I didn't like the sound of it.

I slowed my bike and looked round but didn't see anything.

May be entirely unrelated and unhelpful.

So sorry to hear about your partner. Makes me feel very anxious.

This isn't the first time I have heard of a mugging like this in the Peckham Rye area - I know of two others very similar - knife point, forced to give up phone, unlock it and give the code / reset it to factory settings there and then.

Please be careful people, it's always been 3 lads too, so does make me think it could be one group responsible and I really hope they get caught soon.

I agree the precise term doesn't change the awful nature of the crime, but the crime/offence is robbery and it would be charged under Section 8(1) of the Theft Act.

Because the assailant was armed with a knife it is particularly serious and possession/use of offensive weapons charges would also follow, which would increase the sentencing on conviction.

The maximum term for robbery is life imprisonment, although obviously nothing anywhere approaching that would be the sentence. Street robbery using an offensive weapon would normally carry a significant custodial sentence.

That's why they took the phone code - they would have

wiped it.

Service providers could find it by IMEI and block - but

do they share that location with Police ?? they definitely

block.

For Info from https://www.police.uk/crime-prevention-advice/protecting-your-mobile-phone/

You need to know more than the model and colour of your handset. Each mobile phone manufactured for use in the UK has a unique International Mobile Equipment Identity number (IMEI) hardwired into it during the manufacturing process. Knowing the IMEI will help the police and insurance companies identify your handset should it be stolen. UK network operators will also prevent a stolen phone from working across their respective networks if they know its IMEI.

You can find your handset?s IMEI by:

typing *#06# into the keypad or dialer of your handset

looking inside the battery or SIM card compartment of your handset

looking on the side of the box, or on the associated paperwork, that you received when purchasing the handset

    • I've not posted any restaurant reviews here for a while, but with the long Easter weekend approaching I thought I'd serve an update. I recently reviewed The Palmerston and elsewhere became involved in a debate about the best pub lunch in SE22. So which ones do people here currently rate?  Yes I know people can just do a search for "Best pub lunch" but as well as new eateries popping up all the time two of the places I've reviewed – EDT and Bishop – have had a reboot since I reviewed them so I'm interested in hearing how they are doing now. FYI I'm still not charging people to read my reviews or subscribe (though they can pay if they are inclined) and I still haven't had any cease and desist letters from other food people who have used the word "Eats" in their name. And I put a lot of work into these reviews. They aren't just a couple of dashed off sentences saying what is good/bad. When not doing this for fun I'm a professional journalist. If people want to nitpick and be pedantic I'll just have to learn to live with it. https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/
    • Have there been any happy outcomes yet?  I was reminded of this thread by Kate Bradbury's recent two minute Radio4 Tweet of the Day spot on swifts and swift boxes.  She even plays their calls out of her window hoping to attract them.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0029yp8 Coincidentally, last week I came across a planning condition attached to the permission (24/AP/3592) granted to the old Melbourne Grove GP premises, that they install "no less than four bee bricks."  They're specifically for so-called solitary bees, who seem to be regarded as equally busy and deserving.  Kate B. mentioned that Brighton now attaches a similar condition, requiring swift boxes in all new-builds.  Might Southwark be doing so too?
