James
See you there Mad World & Clare (Ally Pally). I'll be the one wearing black ;-)Saw Kraftwerk at Royal Festival Hall, that was pretty amazing (despite frumpy seating arrangement).Prince next though. Can't wait. Alan Dale
Gigs are good unless you go to see Hard Fi. Once you realise that he can't sing his own songs it makes the album a lot less enjoyable.I saw the Raconteurs at Brixton. They were qualo.Other than that I have never had a bad night at a Maximo Park concert including one where I lost my phone. A bit of an epiphany actually -I've been on gyppo as you go ever since and got my annual phone costs down to about ?30. Up the Park. Annasfield
I saw Hard-Fi too. Admittedly he can't sing all that well (whoever produced that album, did a very good job) but the atmosphere was brilliant and I was fairly hammered by the time we got in to the academy, so I enjoyed it all the same. Alan Dale
I had a good night too but now I can't listen to an album I used to like. They should get Heather from M people in to replace him. That would be 'hard to beat'. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/2/#findComment-35995 Share on other sites
mockney piers
My best would be either Grandaddy at V when they were overwhelmed by the reception they got, or Flaming Lips at Kentish Town Forum (well, actually it's every Half Man Half Biscuit gig I've ever been to, but that apart).Worst would be Bright Eyes at Hammersmith Odeon. His fans were just insufferable tosspots. I actually had to leave after half an hour and go to a pub; much like Alan's Hard-Fi experience I now find it very hard to listen to his albums. Ant
My most eye-opening was probably Daisy Chainsaw supported by Sheep on Drugs. I saw them at ULU when I was about 15.Blur at Shepherd's Bush just after they'd released Girls and Boys was a another one that sticks in the memory, as do Madness and Desmond Dekker in Finsbury Park.Haven't been to a gig in years... Ought to do something about that really. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/2/#findComment-36015 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
And a pub near Hammy Odeon at that! *shudders*Another biggie for me would be the first time I saw Flaming Lips - Bristol Academy againWorst for me would be the Stones at Wembley in 90 (or any subsequent tour probably) or The Cure at the Arena in 1989. Just dull beyond words an not helped by the famous Wembley "security" guards Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/2/#findComment-36016 Share on other sites

The bass player headbutted the singer in the nose, and she played the rest of the gig "singing" with blood everywhere... Cool >:D<Top ones for me are Smashing Pumkins Astoria2 1994Metallica Milton Keyens super bowl about 1993 (Supported by Mega Death... ROCK!!!).Ozzy Osbourne at a theatre in Mancherster in 1991... My first ever gig when I was about 13. Ozzy rules! Or at least he used to before he went all mainstream on our asses ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/2/#findComment-36034 Share on other sites
mockney piers
Daisy Chainsaw!! Wow, that may have to be one for the back catalogue. Rather wish I'd seen Babes in Toyland, tell me you did Ant, pleeease. Jah Lush
Best and worst gigs? Oh! too many to mention, but for starters. One of the best:- First time I saw Iggy Pop (Brixton Jan '91). I'd been wanting to see him for years and he didn't let me down. Strides on and straight in Raw Power...Total headf**k and it didn't let up all the way through. We were straight down the mosh pit pogoing like lunatic 17-year-olds. Brilliant!Worst:- Crowded House (Yawn) Hammersmith Odeon (or Labbatts Hammersmith Apollo as it was called at the time) back in the 90s. As soon as the band came on they shut the bar..boo! Heavy bouncers and you couldn't smoke or dance in the aisles and the audience looked like they'd all got the babysitters in. Walked out after six numbers and haven't been back since. BORING!! I went the night Paul Weller did a guest slot. As I say I had a good night but the guy is such a bad singer that I felt a bit cheated. It's not really a band if they have to do a Victoria Beckham on his voice to make the album... Keef
I had a bad one at The Counting Crows at Hammersmith. Love the band, but got stuck in the seats upstairs and tutted for trying to sing along or stand up... May as well have listened to the CD at home, could have had more fun that way! Brendan
The Spice Girls supported by Billy Ocean. November ?97, Ellis Park Stadium ? Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela and Prince Charles were also there it couldn?t have been wrong. ?. No? Oh well? suit yourselves. Mighty Mighty Bostones were one of the best live bands I?ve ever seen. Faithless live at the V festival a few years back were definitely notable. Not really something I thought I would like but they absolutely blew me away. SeanMacGabhann
Getting stuck upstairs at Hammersmith - there aren't many other things that can ruin a gig in one fell swoop - my sympathies KeefJust remembered another top top gig - Massive Attack in Queens Sq in Bristol - beautiful day, beautiful night and beautiful gig Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/2/#findComment-36054 Share on other sites
TillieTrotter
Madness in Finsbury Park in the late 80's was a brilliant day! Morrisey actually got bottled off the stage before Madness came on!! Alan Dale
Massive attack at Brixton was a bit crap apart from the presence of Horace Andy.I stood next to two Jews who found the whole pro-palestinian bordering on anti-semitism a bit much. Worst of all was De La Soul at the Jazz cafe as they wouldn't even do The Magic Number. In fact they only played one track from 3 Feet high and rising. Tw'ts. Asset
One of my best gigs ever was The Tubes at the Odeon in Edinburgh circa 1980 - what a show. I went to see them again at the Astoria a couple of years ago and for a bunch of oldies they still put on a fantastic show. Fee Waybill still does several outfit changes. Keef
One of the best shows I've seen was Nickleback at Hammersmith in about 2003-04. Now I'm not really a big fan, but went along cos I like gigs, but they put on a great show! It was very Spinal Tap, in that the guitarists were stood either side of the singer, then these platforms rose about 20 ft off the stage on columns, and they were stood up there! I would have sh!t myself and fallen to my death, but I guess they were strapped on.They also did Metallica's "Sad but true" which myself and my metalhead mate Ant enjoyed.Like I say, not a massive fan, but the show was worth seeing! Asset
I worked with De La Soul in the late eighties - what a miserable bunch of bastards they were!Another of my best gigs ever was (eek) Wacko at Wembley Stadium in about 1989. Wasn't bothered about going but got a free ticket and got totally carried away with it all. Conversely went to see Prince at the Arena around the same time - was really excited about it and ended up being bored stiff. Saw Frankie Goes to Hollywood perform Relax at a club in Edinburgh before it became a hit - that was a freaky floor show!
