giggirl
Sorry I'm such a miserable old bag. The problem at the moment is that I've given up coffee for Lent so I have a permanent headache. Usually by the afternoon I can't take it any more and go to Neros. If only I could stick it out and get through the withdrawal period .... but I'm such a pussy. Anyway, I'm currently inhaling a latte so I'm feeling much better now - and I'm starting to look forward to tonight. Bring it on Duffy! Growlybear
My daughter was one of the 12-20 year olds down at the front :)) The last time Korn were at Brixton a couple of years ago, I took her, and they were brilliant. Now she's a bit older and doesn't need an adult with her, I wasn't allowed to go. I spent the evening feeling miserable and wishing I was there. :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/11/#findComment-85332 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
Gig girl if its any help bush hall is a great venue. Trek king over to that part of london for the empire is no fun but bush hall is a treat. giggirl
Duffy rocks.Amazing voice of course. If you close your eyes you really do hear traces of Dusty. She's extremely pretty and very composed. Oozes confidence. I predict she'll go far.She didn't come on until about 9.15 but the Bush Hall had a great DJ - he even played Thelma Houston's Jumping Jack Flash - now there's a classic. giggirl
All you Korn fans out there might be interested to know that Jonathan Davis (lead singer) has some solo gigs planned. He will be playing at Union Chapel Islington on Monday 16th June. Not the easiest venue to get to from ED but it's so nice there that it's worth the effort. You can buy direct from the venue and collect the tickets on the night (thus cutting out those ugly booking fees that we all hate). http://www.unionchapel.org.uk/whatson/index.php/20080601.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/11/#findComment-85656 Share on other sites
giggirl
Mogwai at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 12th May - has all the makings of a very chilled out evening and a great gig. Not really my thing but they're very popular so I thought I would post it here. david_carnell
Bump. One of my favourite venues is the Luminaire in Kilburn. I'll kick myself if you lot get the last tickets but next month the unknown legend that is King Creosote is playing. Never seen him live before but am hoping to here.Details can be found here Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/11/#findComment-95316 Share on other sites
mightyroar
I saw Elbow last night at Brixton............anyone else? I know you hate Brixton giggirl but I think it's a great venue.especially when the drive home takes 10 mins!I agree that the bar is rubbish but I was off the sauce last night. Downstairs standing is a great view because of the sloping floor.Elbow sounded fab, played a chunk of the new album, some classics and some oldies that I'd never heard before.Richard Hawley came on to duet with them on The Fix (from the new album)Guy was doing alll his audience chit chat which went down well. The ended with Grace under pressure which is always a treat. but still- their material is all such a similiar tempo it's hard for them to really get going. I would go and see them again, they make a great noise...but somehow it wasnt a great show. good but not great.Maybe it's cos I wasnt drinking! giggirl
Sounds like a good gig. Don't think Brixton was necessarily the best venue for Elbow. Can't really argue with the 10 minutes journey home - there's a lot to be said for that. This year's Somerset House gigs will go on sale soon (maybe this week or next?). They normally throw up some corkers. And the 176 bus stop is just outside the gates. Also, the long-awaited Meltdown programme should be out some time this month (again, on the 176 route). I'll post here as soon as I know more. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/11/#findComment-95401 Share on other sites

mlteenie
I haven't read thru the whole thread, but is The Academy good for kids? You don't need to be 18 to get in, or are kids only allowed for certain gigs? I want to take my son to see some metal or something as he hasn't yet gigged and I know it will blow his tiny. Gerrard
Mightyroar - I was at elbow too, and had a fantastic time. I consumed several pints of Guinness before, during and then a couple of cheeky ones after the gig in true Tuesday night fashion, so perhaps this had a bearing on my night. I think elbow are a great band to see live. I have to say I love the Academy, great sound, atmosphere and location. The bar situation could certainly be improved but I was served within 5-10 mins for both of my rounds. The sloping floor catches you out when you are drunk sometimes, but the crowd at elbow gigs are normally friendly so no problems there.Have a great weekend all. giggirl
This year's MELTDOWN lineup is being announced tomorrow (Sunday) in The Observer. Tickets on-sale next Thursday (for members) or otherwise Friday.Meltdown always has a couple of amazing gigs (as well as some pretty obscure ones) so do check it out. It is so easy to get home to ED from the South Bank.Massive Attack are curating this year so expect the likes of Portishead/Tricky. louisiana
I was taken aback by how good and interesting Yoko Ono's gig at Patti Smith's Meltdown was, a few years back.I hadn't been a fan. giggirl
So, Meltdown, eeehhhh..... Grace Jones anyone?Did anyone else go to see this diva in Brixton (sometme in the 80s) when it took her so long to get on stage that half the audience had gone for the last tube by the time she made it on and the remainder bo'ed her?No Chandon no band-on - very annoying. Keef
Zutons would be alright. I really liked The Feeling's first album, thought it was full of some nice happy tunes, but the one single I've heard on the radio from their second album was a load of shite. "Fill my little world" was a real XFM song when XFM was still okay, but then they flogged it on Capital, and The Feeling basically went down the same sort of road as McFly or Busted (but with a gay twist).Shame, as they undoubtedly have talent, and there were a lot of good influences on their first album. SeanMacGabhann
Agree with the Zutons and maybe one or two others - but nothing to make me leap for joy and raid the piggy-bank if I have to pay over the odds for a sold out eventBut it's a great venue anyway so a bit of sun and it's a cracking evening Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/11/#findComment-101909 Share on other sites
