Otta
I know it sounds weird, but I'd like to hear Adele sing Gimmie Shelter. When the single Rolling in the deep came out, I was immediately reminded of Gimmie Shelter. I wasn't aline, as there are several mash ups of the 2 songs on youtube. Otta
At least there used to be mash ups on youtube, but they all appear to have been removed for copyright reasons.Probably the stones worrying that a possible profit was being taken from them. giggirl
Love Adele. She would nail Gimmie Shelter. It's a song that separates the men from the boys (so to speak). I don't think Florence is up to it. I bet Mary J nailed it - would love to have seen that. Otta
Yeah Mary J definitely would have belted it out. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/32/#findComment-595858 Share on other sites
david_carnell
Maybe 10 years ago she would have. Age and drugs have taken their toll on that lady. Whitney ptII.Agree on Adele but reckon Florence could do it. She's got the wail nailed and it's not a nuanced or subtle part for a female singer. Otta
Really? That's a shame, I haven't see anything of Mary J for a long time, so I was probably talking about the Mary J of 10 years ago (she who sang 911 with Wyclef, one of my favourite songs). giggirl
Florence would do a screech, not a wail. Listened to some ropey iphone recordings on YouTube and Mary J sounded great. It would be a great shame if her voice is starting to go. She put Bono back in his box so she has scored many points with me. Not convinced about Florence but hope I'm wrong. Jah Lush
Mary J was on Later a few months ago and she tore it up. Pure soul, straight outta church. Florence sounds like nails dragging down a blackboard in comparison. RosieH
Did D_C really just "lady" this thread??Saw Dan Mangan at the Scala last night. In spite of a rather off-putting recent comparison to Mumford & Sons, he was immense: made me cry, made me laugh, conducted the sudience singing "robots" as well as backing vocals on another tune. A perfect night. A steal at a tenner.I love him. I do. I want to cuddle him. giggirl
Stones were beyond brilliant Otta. There is a reason why even at those prices every single ticket was sold. As far as rock bands go they're as good as it gets as far as I'm concerned. Didn't hurt that we were in the tiny mosh pit in front of the stage. A very sedate mosh pit; only about 200 of us in there and completely surrounded by a walk-way so the views were incredible and because I couldn't actually see over the top of the said walk-way it felt like they were playing a really intimate gig, even though it was the O2.Low point of the evening was indeed Florence strangling Gimme Shelter. Punching above her weight and couldn't hack it. Lisa Fisher (Goddess) was robbed! Dulwich got a shout-out though. When she walked off Mick said "there goes Florence from Dulwich, not far from where we started out". Highlight of the evening was Mick Taylor playing Midnight Rambler; didn't see that coming. Pure genius. Got to see Mick Taylor again soon.Definitely lived up to all the hype. Five star gig. giggirl
Just heard that the Stones are going to close The Brits this year. I think a tour announcement can be expected soon and I only hope the prices are more affordable than the O2. malumbu
Really don't understand how any of you out there can like rock stars that have been around for 25 years (Stone Roses) or worse still 50 years (Stones). Music is stale and has long since been cutting edge. Kunt and the Gang (for the name) and 12 Bar Club (as it is an excellent venue) sounds far more interesting.I've been to a few reunions and always think WTF did I spend the money, even when I have cut price tickets through ebay.Of course there are exceptions - Morrisey (although please don't do the Smiths numbers) and I saw the Chameleons when they reformed in 2000, but was rather pissed which helped. And Young Marble Giants at Dingwalls in a couple of weeks time. Still sound fresh 30 years on.Other groups to hate - Manic Street Preachers, one good album, U2 (quite good in 1980) and even Pulp - why ruin the memories of the summer of Britpop - 95?Hopefully the Stones will do a repeat of the famous Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood in 1989. Actually no, I hope not as that was actually entertaining.
