Keef
Tickets for Led Zep being done by ballot, and cost ?125 each... I think not.If anyone is tempted, I saw Plant about 3 years ago, and he can still hold a note. Personally I never really liked them though. Keef
The Gossip last night at Kenntish Town Forum. F**king wicked!!!It all started a bit badly, in that I was really tired, and didn't really feel up to it. We arrived to see a "bloke" on stage ding what I can only describe as talking sh!t along to a beat. He was wearing a red thong, and he had breasts. Very odd.The next "act" were a drummer and a singer. Good drummer, singer that needed shooting... At this stage I really wanted to go home! However, Gossip hit the stage, and opened with a new tune which is a brave thing to do! They're only a 3 piece with vocals, drums (very very good female drummer), and a bloke who switches between bass and guitar, but the sound is big enough to pull it off.Anyway, this new tune was drums and bass, and got everyone moving! Her vocals were awesome all night, and she is such a good performer, you can't help loving her. They finished their main set with "Standing in the way of control", which is probably their most popular song, and a real crowd pleaser! They then came back and did the most bizarre cover of George Micheal's "Careless Whisper", and then another song. To be honest, I think they'd reached their peak with "Standing in the way of control", and should have saved that for the encore.Anyway, that's my only critisism. They were great, it was very good to see and hear them in a small venue (having first been impressed by them at Reading), and I would whole heartedly recommend them to anyone! Big big thumbs up >:D< Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/5/#findComment-38869 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
Great review Keef - cheersI totally empathise with the "do I really want to do this, I'm tired" feeling but when quality starts up, everything is forgotten Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/5/#findComment-38888 Share on other sites
Annasfield
I love the Forum - it's one of my favourite venues :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/5/#findComment-38919 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Echoed Annasfield, been to some great gigs there and when it was the Town & Country Club too. My only gripe is that it's a bastard to get home from late at night. SeanMacGabhann
And this from a man who has to get back from White Hart Lane late at night! No less true for all of that mind. I love the venue but does no-one else find the sound a tad muddy? Jah Lush
It's a while since I've been up there Sean but I agree the acoustics aren't that great are they? I much prefer the Shepherds Bush Empire or Bush Hall as I think it is now called. SeanMacGabhann
Shep Bush Empire and Bush Hall are 2 different venues - the Empire we all know and love/hateBush Hall is much further down the road - externally unassuming but beautiful inside, it's a great great venue Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/5/#findComment-38964 Share on other sites

Brendan
This is a long shot but I?m trying to remember the name of a band I saw at the Bull and Gate in Kentish town a few months ago and really enjoyed. They are a 3 piece but with 2 bassists and no guitar and they play a set bordering on standup comedy. Crude jokes and music that could be likened to Primus. The singer spoke with what sounded like it could have been a West Country accent. Anyone know who I?m talking about? Brendan
Nope but you have put a smile on my face imagining the Wurzels getting up to play a gig in front of a bunch of spiky haired, pointy shoed Camdenites. Keef
*Ahem*"One for the Bristol City, Two for the boys in red. Three for the fans down Ashton Gate we'll follow til we're dead me boys, we'll follow til we're dead!".Annasfield Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I love the Forum - it's one of my favourite venues> :))I had to read that twice before realising you didn't mean this forum! :-$Hate the Shep Bush Empire, but probably because it was the first place I experienced the no smoking ban!Acoustics in the forum have been great when I've been there, but that's only 3 or 4 times. Worst acoustics I ever heard were Ocean colour scene at Hammersmith, but I've heard other bands sound great there. I don't think it's so much the building's acoustics, I think it's the quality of your sound tech. Annasfield
Worst accoustics = Earls Court. Saw the Chili Peppers there last year. Most disappointing :'( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1326-great-gigs/page/5/#findComment-39003 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Yeah! Your're right there Annasfield. Earls Court has got the worse sound ever. Saw the Stones there in '76 and the sound was pretty ropey then but I was having such a good time at seeing them for the first time that I didn't really care. Then I saw Oasis there in '95 and couldn't believe that the sound was so dreadful. Haven't been back since. Mind you, who wants to go and see a band in a bloody aircraft hangar anyway?
