I don't see as how we are in a political mess- just more remoaner doom-mongering....the government is playing its cards close to its chest because there is 40 years of EU nonsense to plough through and there is no-one in a position to definitively point the direction from ANY party.

All this is going to take a lot of time and there are impatient fools out there- act in haste, repent at leisure

And you don't moan? Forty years plus of neo lefty non democratic blah blah rule.

So tell me in your parallel universe of the UK not joining the the Common market what would the UK have looked like?

How would we remember Heath? Would Thatcher have got in? With the likely continuation of the state intervening to support inefficient industries would the workers still have had a big say on the running of the country?

We can all play this game 'what if'

Here are some other scenarios

TUC voted for wage constraint in 1978 and a labour government stayed in power

A new treaty had been agreed on the Falklands so no war, and a wishy washy SDP had won the 1983 election

Scargill didn't consider himself above the law, had a proper ballot, and by a better timed strike brought the country to its knees in the winter of 1984. (in your scenario he would have been calling the shots with government so there would never have been a strike)

Neil Kinnock did not prematurely celebrate his expected election victory in 1992 and instead went on a charm offensive in particular getting the Sun to support him.

John Smith did not have a heart attack and after three successful terms handed onto Ed Milliband.

Gordon Brown had gone for an early election.

It's a fun and free pastime.

(I also play the game for football, what if Banks hadn't been ill, what if Bobby Moore had been replaced by England a bit earlier, what if the useless Chief Constable of South Yorks had never got the job etc.

    • Nikolay & team were fantastic from start to finish - really responsive, easy communication, explained what they would do and delivered on it, and crucially delivered high-quality work. We bought a house with very tired floorboards that had been covered up by carpet for a very (very) long time, with cracked floorboards, and big gaps between some of them - just generally dirty and grim-looking. Within 7 working days for three rooms, a corridor, and an entire staircase, the floor was sanded, some floorboards replaced, gaps filled in, and finished to a great colour and feel. We hesitated a long time between restoring the floor or just covering it up again with a new floor, but really glad we went down this route and found a great team to take care of it. It was also a very reasonable price for the amount of work done - would have been a nightmare to do ourselves without the right kit etc at the start, so glad we spent this money. I would highly recommend NN Floor Sanding based on my experience with them.
    • Is the Bishop still owned by the guy who started Meat Liquor and who annoyed all his ED neighbours during his house renovation?
    • In my experience, if your child's SEN leads to behavioural issues, do not send them to Charter North. It's just endless detentions and threats of exclusion. Too many people try to get in because it is Ofsted outstanding. Not a good sign for SEN, your child would likely be better off in an Ofsted Good school with a better understanding of and attitude towards SEN. The new SENCO might turn things around.
    • So far 4 US presidents have been assassinated in office. What chances that DJT is the fifth? Ladbrokes have it at 9/4 that he will not make it to the end of his term. 9/4 seems good odds considering his bizarre behaviour.
