Fire Balloons in the Sky Near East Dulwich Station Friday Evening?

When I was leaving East Dulwich station on Friday evening around 8pm, there were "fire balloons" in the sky--sort of a cross between a white paper lantern, hot air balloon, and a kite. They were maybe the size of a kitchen bin liner, and seemed to be coming from the direction of the football grounds.

Does anyone know what that was about? It was a pretty interesting sight!

Can be great fun to do, but probably quite dangerous to do as likely to be using hairspray as the accelerant.

It was a wedding

They were Chinese lanterns & burn for no more than 20mins. Great to see but can be dangerous as they can burn down trees & fields in summer if they get stuck or come down alight.
