Thanks to a fund from Southwark Council, there will be a Xmas Parade in Dulwich Village, West Dulwich & Lordship Lane. If you would like to participate, please do get in touch. Additionally, there will be a Christmas Market in dulwich park on Sunday 5th December. Again, email if you are interested.

Finally, on Wednesday 29th September, the South Southwark Business Association will be holding it's AGM at the Crown & Greyhound from 6.30pm. All welcome.

Thanks tfc

I have to ask a very cynical question, but

in order to save our local shops we need to shop locally, therefore why are we not holding the christmas market in the heart of lordship lane so that it encourages people to visit the market and also shop on lordship lane. by holding it away from our main shopping area are you not encouraging people away from our local shops at at time they need the spend the most ?

Just a thought but wouldn't it be better to work with rather then against the interests of the local traders ?

I would add to ArtfulDogger's comment that spending Southwark Council's money on promoting an already successful area may not be the best use of public funds. Most local traders would prefer a permanent reduction in business rates to a one off - and as AD has pointed out, poorly targeted effort.

I?m sure it probably has more to do with Dulwich Park being an open public area with the facilities and space available to host a market and lordship lane being a busy crowed high street and thoroughfare.

Goose Green would be an option to bring people to LL but things like parking and access are probably much easier in Dulwich Park.

    • The govt research cited earlier in this thread suggests that the number of foreign uni students seeking places is reducing and that this is nothing to do with available accommodation, but with rising uni course fees and issues to do with visas. So I wonder what the true level of demand will be for these student rentals, if many cannot afford them? If there was insufficient uptake on the student side what would happen to the properties?
    • Just seen them! Moved into Barry Rd 33 years ago and remember watching dozens of them in the sky as we sat in the back garden the first evening. Look out for them every year. Lifts your spirits when they arrive.
    • Aleksandra was the driving force behind the conversion of what was a nice but very outdated house into what is now my beautiful, vibrant and modern home. I cannot recommend her enough- she was a pleasure to work with- she has an uncanny eye for detail and her sense of style is unparalleled. She knew where to push me beyond my “safe beige” colours but always kept my personality and preferences in mind. She sourced fabric / colours / lighting designs , she found local options for spectacular interior ideas in the kitchen , display cabinets , bathrooms , bedrooms and wardrobes. She never went beyond budget and was very timely in her execution. The result was a beautiful home that even after 8 years looks as stunning as it did when first put together. It is as liveable as it is beautiful and none of it would have been possible with Alexandra. I truly could not recommend her highly enough- there are few people with her work ethic and style. Thank you Alexandra !
    • The Lib Dems are against tightening visa requirements to live in the UK and against shrinking the university sector, and also (at least in Dulwich) against housing being built if it means that foreign students live in it. 🤷
