BIDDY - I'm not quite sure what you mean about reviews (reviews for plywood? reviews for timber yards?), but the best local place to buy this kind of ply (it's called furniture-grade birch multi-ply) is from Whitten's Timber in Peckam. Be prepared: by the square metre or by the sheet - the full size is 8' x 4' (and will not go in car) - it is relatively very expensive (and also exceptionally heavy. There is little point in using this grade unless you are going to retain it's natural appearance by leaving it bare, or waxing, oiling or varnishing it. This is to say, if you are going to paint it, use far cheaper grades. Finally, unless you are a carpenter with an industrial electic table saw, most thicknesses quite impossible to cut accurately, or ofen even cut, at home. So - although I have no idea what you are making with it - the idea is to take your sized-up working drawing to Whittens and pay them to cut the components for you. Their cutting charges are very fair. Good luck - DIX

    • It would be very difficult indeed to rip it off in passing. However I stand well  away from the edge of the pavement and keep an eye out. Many bus stops don't have indicators of bus times, including the one outside the Post Office, which I use a lot. If I'm going somewhere which is only served by one of the buses from that stop, I don't like not knowing whether I will have to wait two minutes or twenty minutes, and I often forget to look before I leave the house. What more do you think could be done? Hordes of police at every minute of the day standing at every possible place in Inner London where somebody may get their phone out? Obviously I'm joking, but I don't think there's any indication that the police don't take these crimes seriously. There's been a noticeably increased police presence around ED lately, and there are various police/community initiatives where you can make your voice heard if you have concerns and  sensible ideas to contribute. It's very easy to complain without knowing all the background and the full facts. If memory serves, and I'm sure someone will correct me if it doesn't, a previous Tory administration drastically reduced police numbers in London. Therefore it's even more important for the police to assess priorities when deciding where to concentrate their limited resources. I imagine that  things like phone thefts and shoplifting come rather further down the list of priorities than things like stabbings and sexual assaults.
    • Either the car was on blues or it wasn't, maybe OP can clarify? But I still don't get why it would be a good thing that the cyclist escaped from two police vans - they would have either arrested or protected him, depending on the scenario.
    • That seems the more likely scenario, doesn't it? I suspect unwarranted assumptions have been made. What is the evidence that the car was a police car? What is the evidence that two police vans arrived later "to help give chase"? To "help"? If the car was not a police car, other interpretations of the situation are possible, as said above. It could be that the cyclist had done nothing wrong and was trying to get away from the pursuing car for completely other reasons. Who knows? It's very easy to jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts.
