EXPLORING BACKBENDS WITH NATHALIE MUKUSHEVA - THIS SATURDAY 12 NOVEMBER AT YOGARISE, PECKHAM.

One of the most common misconceptions when it comes to backbends is that they originate in the lumbar spine or lower back, when actually what we?re looking for is length in the lower back.

In this workshop we will begin in restorative poses, designed to open the chest and shoulders by creating length through the front body. Working from the ground up by moving through a series of standing poses designed to strengthen the legs and ankles, and stabilise the pelvis (another important component in safe back bending) you will establish a firm foundation from which to explore your backbend practice.

Working with a partner you will explore the use of props and the wall before moving into a fun, safe, deep backbend practice. The props will stabilise and bring the body into optimal alignment so you can experience how the postures feels before attempting to go deeper.

We will explore poses like Natarajasana (Dancer?s pose), Kapotasana (Pigeon Pose), Eka-Pada- Kapotasana (One- Legged Pigeon Pose) Eka-Pada-Rajakapotasana (One Leg King Pigeon Pose) and finally working into Drop Backs ? coming into Urdva Dhanurasana (Wheel) from standing.

Expect to be uplifted, stretched and empowered from this deep, heart-opening practice.
