How often do your frequent and support East Dulwich's restaurants?

Recommended Posts

Just cut and paste Steveo's list as I'm lazy (and added a few)

Franklins - 3 or 4 times to eat - for the price and vibe (non-trendy) the resataurant is too cramped although food excellent. Drinking - quite often (near my gaff)

Palmerston - 5 times or so when other options full. OK.

Yama Momo - Once - hugely disappointed

Le Chardon - Years ago on Valentines Day in another life with a different wife

Tandoori Nights - i get confused which is which all a bit the same too.

Sema Thai - Whe it was old school thai and first opened loads been crap for years now so never

Thai Corner Caf? - take away loads. When it forst opened in the 90s went alot BYOB helped

The Lordship - Twice. Quite impressed

Franco Manca - Once - loved the pizza my kids hated it so never since

Meat Liquour - Once, loved - will go again

ToastED - no

Mr Bao - no - looks good

Bahn Bahn - No

The Rye - Not for years but had a phase of Sunday lunches

Burro - Not a clue?

Peddar - One - will visit again my favourite meal ever round here

Spinach - Yes, once . A bit meh

Mr Liu - no

Le Chandelier - no

Burro e Salvia - no

Hisar - Lots, kids like it, I like it...I think you like it Mick?

French House - not yet

Great Exhibition - just drinking

Olivellis - twice - not impressed

Il Mirto - once when it was the best thing ever on the EDF - average

House of Tippler - Sunday Lunch good - like this place for a drink as you can get a seat

GBK - far too often (kids :))

The Surma Never

Draft House - Once then it went

Flying Pig - Yes, beer & Burger Monday football is good

Cafe Noodle - Takeaway

Si Mingia- lovely service, food very average

Clockhouse - food always been crap but at least it used to feel like a pub

Plough - enuff said

I really like steveo's alternative perspective / list above.

Quids your list very similar to what mine would be but you need to get the babysitter in and hit Mr Bao. le Chardon - similar bro - ex gf territory.

I'm a outsider so don't really count. But seeing as you asked -

GBK - once, and it reminded me of that old joke "waiter, where's my stake" "you'll find it under your pea sir"

Blue Mountain - occasionally

EDT - very surprised and will go back

Rye Hotel - food was fine in the past, in recent times prices gone up as they try to make it even more gastro. But you can get a table in the summer. They also sold me an uncooked lump of stuff from the BBQ last year that was supposedly a vegie burger but uneatable. (yes it did go back)

Clock - wont go their as it has been ruined by successive refurbs

CPT - used to provide plates of sandwiches at the quiz which were great

Curry houses. Aren't these all the same offering generic formulaic foo?. Have eaten a couple of times but did like the veggy one which didn't last long

Thai Corner cafe - used it a few times when we first came to the area in the 90s - sound like standards have dropped?

And my favourite, and sadly no longer, Grace and Favour. Ticked all the boxes for a relaxed lunch, including lovely portugese cakes, great coffee (for someone who rarely drinks the stuff) and nice med type food. Far better than BMC. Shame it shut.

I love pretty tapas and followed them in all four of their pop ups to date including their latest location at the house of Tippler

Too embarrassed to say exactly how many times I've eaten there but it's got to be over 50 times since they opened

Other places

Barcelona 3 or 4 times a year

Mr liu 3 times in the past year plus numerous take aways

Clockhouse 6 plus times this year

The Actress 6 times this year

Sema Thai twice this year

Curry houses (various) 4 times

Si Mangia once (so far)

Bhan Bhan once (so far)

Crikey I've eaten out far too much this year 😳

I don't eat out as often as I used to but here you go.

Franklins - Quite a few times to eat. Always excellent. Boozing - Hundreds. A big favourite of mine.

Palmerston - Only eaten there a few times. Drank there a lot many moons ago before it became more of a restaurant. Not been in for ages.

EDT - Probably my favourite pub in the area so loads. Great bangers n' mash, beer selection and the staff are very nice too.

The Gowlett - Lots. Another favourite. Best pizza locally and the staff are lovely.

The Cherry Tree - A few post match drinks and a few afternoon sessions in the garden during the summer. Keep meaning to have the burgers there as they look great and very reasonably priced. Massively improved since the previous owners left.

Yama Momo - No thank you.

Le Chardon - Quite a bit but not so much recently. (Best fish soup ever, gorgeous wine/Armagnac). Very sad to hear that it's closing.

Tandoori Nights - Several times but not been for ages. Not as good as it was/thinks it is.

Sema Thai - Three or four times but before the reverb. So ages ago.

Thai Corner Caf? - Once. Can't understand why it's packed out all the time as distinctly average Thai food.

The Lordship - Several times. Food has always been excellent. The Sea bass was amazing.

Franco Manca - No. Not mad keen on sourdough.

Meat Liquour - Not yet. Keen to give it a go.

ToastED - A few times but mostly when I've been flush or treated. Great selection of brandy/Armagnac.

Mr Bao - Where it is. I don't know?

Bahn Bahn - See above.

The Rye - Several times when it did Thai food. A few roasts/football on a Sunday. Not been for a while.

Burro - No. Where?

Peddar - No. Far too small and like Stevo not keen on claustrophobia, clatter and weird beards.

Spinach - No.

Mr Liu - A few times but not for a while.

Le Chandelier - Never.

Burro e Salvia - Pardon?

Hisar - Not been for ages but always liked in there.

French House - Once. Propped up the bar for dessert and more wine/brandy. Charming waitress.

Great Exhibition - Used to eat there quite a lot but not for over a year now. Still miss the CPT.

Olivellis - No.

Il Mirto - No.

House of Tippler - Only eaten in there once. Wasn't up to much though I'm sure it's great now that Pretty Tapas is doing the her thing there. ?50+ a round of drinks whenever I go there and then a doorman politely asks me to leave when I've not been that pissed. That's happened twice recently. Bastards!

GBK - Once or twice. Thought it was crap.

The Surma - Hundreds.

Mirash - Loads.

Draft House - RIP.

Flying Pig - A few boozes.

Cafe Noodle - Never.

Si Mangia/Lorenzos - Loads.

The Actress - You're having a giraffe.

Meant to point out that frequented Lorenzos many a time before Si Mangia arrived. It seems to be another life (which it was) when I used to go to Crystal Palace for a night out. Much rougher in those days as was everwhere around here.

I prefer to go in to town or somewhere else for nights out as I'm here in SE22 nearly all the time.

Favourite and most visited SE22 restaurants at the moment are Il Mirto, The Palmerston and Yama Momo. With the children we go to GBK or Si Mangia (or Joannas or the Pizza place in Crystal Palace). I can't imagine being tempted in to Meat Liquor - the name puts me off completely!

I used to love Franklins when it was the secret garden place on Camberwell New Road hundreds of years ago.

So on the basis of 1) most recent visit & 2) prior visit ...

Palmerston - Summer 2016/ summer 2015

Yama Momo - never

Le Chardon - March 2014/March 2015

Tandoori Nights - May 2016 /Feb 2016

Same Thai - June 2016/may 2016 - probably once a month for lunch

Thai Corner Caf? - when it first opened in 90's it was brilliant and we went twice a week but it went downhill when changed hands.

The Lordship - June 2016 / march 2016

Franco Manca - Late 2015 / earlier 2015

Meat Liquour - not so far

ToastED - may 2016/ October 2015

Mr Bao - never but want to go

Bahn Bahn - never but want to go

The Rye - April 2016 to eat several more times to drink

French Cafe - August 2016/ Nov 2015

si Mangia march 2016/ autumn 2015

Copying and pasting Jah Lush's list ..... and added a few more .....

Franklins - Quite often, but only in the front bit. Usually for brunch or bar snacks unless we're feeling particularly flush. Particularly like the Welsh Rarebit, which is excellent value. Their puds are delicious and so is their Guinness.

Palmerston - Used to drink there a lot, not so much these days. Eaten there a few times but not for ages. Keep meaning to try their weekend brunch but not usually up in time, lol.

EDT - Eaten there a few times but didn't rate the food very highly. Maybe I was unlucky in what I chose.

The Gowlett - Rarely. Great pizza though. Also nice wine, though I usually drink beer.

The Cherry Tree - Really wanted to like this in its new incarnation but had two poor meals in succession which has put me off going back when there's so much choice locally.

Yama Momo - Never been and not likely to.

Le Chardon - Had an unmemorable meal there with a Time Out offer. Otherwise not been there for years.

Tandoori Nights - Not been back since a truly terrible meal. Think it has gone downhill since its glory days when it opened.

Sema Thai - Gave up on it years ago.

Thai Corner Caf? - Ditto. Used to go quite often when it first opened, but the food quality has been up and down over the years, and don't go there any nore.

The Lordship - Once to eat, a few times to drink. Need to give it another try.

Franco Manca - Many many times since it opened. Great pizzas and excellent value for money.

Meat Liquor - Twice. Will be back.

ToastED - Maybe five or six times, mostly lunch and once when someone else was paying. Very delicious.

Mr Bao - Been once, it was fantastic, every other time we've tried it has been rammed and we were too hungry to wait for a table. Will deffo try again.

Bahn Bahn - Haven't tried it yet. Want to.

The Rye - Have had the occasional meal there but not for years.

Pedder - Eaten there once. It was OK.

Spinach - Not yet.

Mr Liu - Been there a few times but not for ages.

Le Chandelier - Had tea in there a few times but not for years and never eaten there. Maybe sandwiches once.

Burro e Salvia - No.

Hisar - Quite a few times but not for ages. I still like their lamb shish, but their other food doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be.

French House - Once. Liked the food a lot, but it felt more like a snack than a meal. Probably I'm just greedy.

Great Exhibition - Used to eat there quite a bit but the standard has been very up and down since it opened.

Olivellis - No.

Il Mirto - Once or twice, I liked it, should go there more often.

House of Tippler - Never.

GBK - Once. It was OK.

Surma - Quite a lot over the years.

Mirash - Once or twice.

Dulwich Tandoori - quite a lot over the years but miss some of the staff who seem to have left.

Flying Pig - Eaten there a few times, it was OK. Used to go there quite a bit to drink and play scrabble, not been for ages.

Cafe Noodle - Once or twice. Not since we were both ill afterwards :(

Si Mangia/Lorenzos - Twice

The Actress - Used to eat and drink there quite a lot when it was first open, hardly ever go there any more.

The Ivy House - Quite a lot. The choice of food has greatly improved since it first re-opened.

Blue Brick Cafe - Occasionally. Yummy food but generally takes a long time to come, so have to be not very hungry on arrival. Also quite often can't get a table, as it's quite small.

Johnnies - Once or twice with the grandkids.

The Begging Bowl - Once on a significant birthday. Would go more often if it was cheaper. Really liked the food.

Ganapati - Used to go occasionally, haven't been for ages.

Curry Cabin - Used to go quite a lot, haven't been for ages.

Swadesh - Used to go quite a lot, haven't been since they stopped serving alcohol.

Kebab and Wine (back room) - Not since we no longer have to clear up after gigs till about 3am :)

St John the Unicorn - Ate there once. It was delicious. Now the delicous food is no longer served there :( Still a nice place to sit in the window with a pint and watch the world go by, though.

Brick House. Once or twice. It was OK.

The Plough - Not for ages.

Old Nun's Head - Occasionally for a burger or Sunday roast.

Picture House Cafe - Not for a meal

Blue Mountain Cafe - Occasionally, not lately

Rosies - Once, it was nice, would go again.

Xoco - Once. Nice crab curry. Terrible music which would put me off going back. They did turn it off for us, but only because there was noone else in there.

Jaflong - once at the old place, once at the new.

What is happening at the Ganapatti Take Away...

Looked in recently to see a motorbike in the shop and a trellis table covered in what looked like large tubs of curry sauces.. spices and other bits of food. Place looked filthy..

Yeah right. You mean you sat in the window so you could be seen by all your bl#w-in friends ;-)

I did wonder how long it would take before somebody commented on that, BNG :))

I started to reply to this to say that Meatliquor burgers are quite pink so don't rule them out but then realised that you might mean that you can't currently eat medium burgers.

I tend only to eat out round here when friends come to stay as quite a few places aren't particularly welcoming to lone diners (unless it's early and they are quiet - I understand that it's one less cover but still...)

Most Indian Restaurants seem to cater for lone diners... probably why I eat so many curries..

Other places are not best suited for lone diners .. with large tables for 4 - 6 people and a reluctance to offer a table to one person. I can understand that..

Also some places with bench seating..

Although that seems to work fine when eating Pie & Mash. Could you pass me the chilli vinegar mate.. Thank you.

    • maybe u should speak to some of the kids parents who are constantly mugged who can’t get a police officer to investigate and tell them to stick to gb news, such a childish righteousness comment for your self  All jokes aside there is young kids constantly getting mugged in our area, there is masked bike riders going around armed with knife’s, all I’m saying is police resources could be better used, police wont use there resources to respond to car theft but will happily knock on someone’s door for hurtful comments on the internet which should have us all thinking 🤔
    • I recommend you stick to GB News following that last comment.  Hate crime is still a crime.  We all think that we know best.
