joseba
After Sainsbury's not moving in (anyone knows why?), Shepards announced that they close at end of November due to restructuring of the business. They tried to get more business by more special offers and some discounts but sadly it seems that wasn't enough to keep it a viable business. Does anyone know more? What's planned to come? Their staff doesn't know.I hope we'll have another convenience shop / little supermarket there. Jah Lush
If Dulwich Estates have anything to do with it it'll be shut for years. See also, The Dog, the Half Moon and the Grove Tavern. chuff
Think it's more to do with Shepherd's giving back their lease to the Dulwich Estate after not being able to sell it. A real shame for the staff that now need to find new jobs. Personally I will miss Shepherd's as use it everyday. Mick Mac
I find it surprising that its not attractive to Waitrose or M&S - perhaps the space is too small. chuff
I think it's too small for a chain as it is. However surveys seem to be happening to adjacent property, so who knows what it will end up being. Just hope they have the sense not to redevelop while the pub is still out of action. DovertheRoad
Tip - head in there now...everything is 20-30% off and still in date. I will miss it's quirky, old fashioned range of anglo-american fare. It always felt part of the Village. Seabag
I remember when that place seem 'exotic' but then I did live in Gypsy HillBut it hasn't dated well, the exotic now seems stale, much like the extraordinary collection of bread based snacks on offerIt was one of the only places to buy a good french bread, croissant, and anchovies once upon a timeBye bye Sheperds Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/130361-shepards-in-dulwich-village-closing/#findComment-1069689 Share on other sites

joseba
They are, sadly, gone now.So this became yet another case of a local shop pushed out by the Dulwich Estate rent increase - up by 33% in this case. Jah Lush
33%! Jeez! It's long been the case that Dulwich Estates are incompetent, rapacious barstewards. northdulmum
is there any update on what Shepards will become? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/130361-shepards-in-dulwich-village-closing/#findComment-1096587 Share on other sites
Louisa
I've just checked the planning portal and no updates. What a mess the village is looking now. Various empty shops, no pub nor any sign of work going on to complete its refurb. Absolutely disgraceful. Louisa.
