After Sainsbury's not moving in (anyone knows why?), Shepards announced that they close at end of November due to restructuring of the business. They tried to get more business by more special offers and some discounts but sadly it seems that wasn't enough to keep it a viable business.

Does anyone know more? What's planned to come? Their staff doesn't know.

I hope we'll have another convenience shop / little supermarket there.

I remember when that place seem 'exotic' but then I did live in Gypsy Hill

But it hasn't dated well, the exotic now seems stale, much like the extraordinary collection of bread based snacks on offer

It was one of the only places to buy a good french bread, croissant, and anchovies once upon a time

Bye bye Sheperds

At least that shoddy Street Art shop is closing.

    • Sorry, should’ve said it was about 5:30 pm.
    • Yesterday was a school day and it was 8⁰! I'm not sure what kind of truanting youth in arctic survival gear you expected to be out there! How many people were having a drink in the pub, just out of interest? Many people enjoying a meal in the restaurant? Any overnight guests in the upstairs rooms? A lot of bar staff on duty yesterday by any chance?
    • Skateboarding is so misunderstood...it is more technical than ballet and the use of drink is not very compatible with a  practise that requires rare dedication and degrees of skill and coordination impossible with alcohol and for most people... impossible at any time. The mutual support and encouragement in that culture is something to be valued.   My Godson's friend had just taken his life which really put things into perspective for me. being trapped alone in a bedroom instead is not great for mental health...   think of the access previous generations had to no mans land.     London has always been a place where wealthy corporate areas remain next to areas of interesting creativity.  The skateboarders beneath south bank centre have a constant audience of tourists;  places like that keep London from becoming stagnant and cold.
    • Another endorsement for Greg. I called him first thing after water started dripping through my kitchen light fitting. He came straightaway, immediately understood the issue and fixed it. Incredibly efficient, neat and tidy, and charged a competitive rate. Will definitely be calling him again and would highly recommend.
