Thanks Mockney. Damn the programming exec at Virgin who decided to post the first 8 of Season 2 onto On Demand and nothing else...

I can almost sense your horror but this oddity means that I have also yet to actually see series 1 (DVD arrived today from Amazon) and I have some serious catch up to do.

As always I'm way behind the curve.....hell in 2011 I might even buy an i Phone!

Just thought you Wire fans (of which I am becoming one!) might like to know I was at the Baftas last night and met both McNulty and Bubbs - and what a lovely pair they are - very friendly! They were most amused to hear about our forum discussions!

They made me do that "Westside" hand thing!

that's very cool. although was it odd to hear mcnulty speak without a Baltimore voice?

Anyway, you know how in the wire, when they are on the corners selling the package, often in the background you can hear them shouting the name of it?.........well one name that they shout in at least 2 episodes is 'pandemic'

which is all I can think at the moment when they say it on the news.

is this just me?

Ok, this is probably the worst place to post this comment, please excuse what follows...

I bought the first series on dvd after the Beeb's seemingly daft decision to put it on so late in the evening.

I think, at a push, I understood 25% of the dialogue.. The plot seemed rather straightforward. Its obviously gloomy (but we were expecting that). It didnt really grab me at all, probably because of the dialogue problem... do you just begin to understand the Baltimore voices after a while? Do they ever finish a sentence without swearing at each other?

We were left so disappointed that we havent brought ourselves to watch episode 2. A friend of ours said it takes at least five episodes to start to understand some of the characters. Is this right? Is this a common theme for Wire virgins, the difficult beginning?

I enjoyed New Jack City etc. but this is really heavy going.

My better half had some real trouble with the accents & dialogue. Very unimpressed after episode 1. We went back & started watching it with subtitles. Now she quite enjoys & is starting to understand it. Perhaps try that?

And yes, it does take a few to get into it.

Yup - it was odd to hear him without the Baltimore accent.... makes you realise what a good actor he is! Rather handsome too!;-)

Andre Royo (Bubbs) spoke exactly as he does in the show though...

I was drawn to this out of curiosity when I read it was President Obama's favourite programme. I struggled at first with all the crack-head chic and nilhilism but have to confess I'm now a convert.

Looking forward to the creator's new series Treme as well.
