Never really liked One Direction (guess I'm too old for boybands!)

Cher is a great performer, but not popular enough with the public, to win.

Rebecca has a great voice, but is so boring to watch.

Mary also sings well, but hasn't got the 'X factor'

Matt is the whole package, he has to win!

Matt is nothing special. He's not a Sinatra, or a Jagger, or a Lennon or a Tom Jones even. He's a competant singer but with a limited range. He'll have a career in the music industry but let's not kid ourselves he's destined for superstardom. He's not. A few years topping the UK charts and then fizzle out....like Shane Ward before him. He's just not unique enough in a market dominated by female vocalists and male bands at the moment.

DJKQ, you're a bit mental about Rebecca. I sort of like your ardent zeal and unshakeable belief in your own rightness, but I don't understand it.

Rebecca's not one of the greats either, and frankly, if we're talking singing ability, John Lennon's a really really odd choice. Whiny scouser - whereas Tom Jones (who gets an "even") has a brilliant voice.

Yeah Dylan...but he did write some good tunes init.

Olly Murs is a good example...he too will fizzle out in a few years (and record sales of his first album are not that great so far). It's not a put down....it's just an honest recognition of the level of these acts within the grander scheme of things. If Matt is wise and Olly too....they'll make as much money as they can while they can. These shows have a tradition of churning out male vocalists who are in the end more 'ordinary' than we remember at the time. I think also it is harder for solo male vocalists to sell records long term unless they crack the US.

Re; Rebecca. I think there are problems there too but I do champion her as the only act with a distcintive and interesting recording voice. There's broad industry agreement on that. But whether it is enough we'll have to wait and see.

When it comes to chart success...my money money is on Cher. She is the suprise act that really will make money short term (even though young people tend to illegally download their music).....can see her enjoying the same kind of success as an act like N-Dubz, because the same audience will go for her. And One D will fit into that niche equally well too.

Think you may well be right about Cher.

Lots of people agree with you about Rebecca, I don't, I think her voice is decidedly average.

Matt & Olly Murs are completely different, I don't get the comparison. Olly was a cheeky chappy, who did some fun stuff. Matt is a much more serious vocalist. You never would have seen Olly sitting on a stool delivering a powerful vocal, he just danced around with a load of girls.

I cringe everytime Cher tries to 'rap' - she's awful. As for rumours that Jay Z wants to sign her up/do something with her..please tell me that's a joke.

Rebecca is as dull as dishwater but likeable (like Leona Lewis). Matt to win for me..his second performance 'Nights in White Satin' on Saturday was brilliant.

Can we please lease bam e use of the term 'recording voice' on this thread. It's a horrible not to mention superfluous term.

Try 'voice' instead.

Anyway, I think the remaining artists all have the chance of making a bit of cash, can't see longeivity for any of them unless they have genuinne talent and do a will as someone said and take control ofntheir own careers.

Cheer probably will have the highest hi before crashing into obscurity forever, probably greatfully having learned many hard lessons as a naive kid from the west midlands.

I reckon oneD actually have the best chance of squeezing a few years out of it, in a blue fashion. They need to aspire to Steps ike status, well, we've all got to reach for the sky....*ironic baddamtish*

She's not actually that bad as a rapper. If you listen to a lot of rappers live they sound like that. The important thing with rap is to keep up and hit the beats....she does that pretty well AND she can rap to different rhthyms whereas Dizee Rascal (for all his lyrical brilliance) can't. BUT she will need a management team that know that genre...and that is NOT Simon Cowell. JLS whilst being under the Syco umbrella are not managed by Simon. They have a team that know the R'n'B market (and know the best songwriters for that) and their success shows it.

You must be hearing something else!! You need a certain style/attitude and confidence that comes NATURALLY to be a good rapper (think Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Eve as female examples)...something that a skinny little girl from Worcester will never have! You can't compare her to Dizee Rascal that's an absolute joke and he's not that great either. There are no decent rappers in the UK.

I didn't say she was a great rapper to be fair.....I said she can rap well enough and the comaprison to Dizee is a fair one that shows she has enough to have chart success in the uk.

There are decent rappers in the UK....they don't necessary have mainstream success but they are out there.

    • The failure of the council year on year to prevent the corporate take-over of our precious public space is appalling. The consultation process this year is deliberately dumbed down and takes the form of a survey with a range of anodyne tick boxes designed to give the appearance of a 'consultation' without requiring any hard comment or information that could be used to oppose the survey.  It may be possible to get some answers from Gala themselves so I will try to do that and post here if anything forthcoming.
    • Avoid Acorn at all cost. Appalling service in every regard. We were involved in a sale and they repeatedly made procedural errors that delayed, and almost tanked, the sale. As buyers, they knew literally nothing about the property and were unable to answer even the most basic questions. Instead they simply lied rather than saying they didn’t know any information which caused issue in the long run. I hear only positive things about Truepenny’s.
