I think the fact that they have yet to risk scheduling One Direction (or, as the Gruniad calls them, Wand Erection) in the first three of the night indicates that the producers are shielding them for as long as possible.

Saturday was a dreary rendition of what was probably Elton's worst song. And it seemed to be 'Get Danni' night - all her acts were shoved to the top of the schedule.

And the booing has started now as well...cue Dermot next week reminding the audience that booing is not good sportmanship.

The sad thing is that amongst all the pantomine of acts like Wagner (who shouldn't be there) and the unfathomable voting patterns.....the few acts that do have some talent, get demeaned. For them this is their life...it's a huge thing.

The producers are happy to let the farce continue because controversy ups rating and financial returns but it will only be ok until the day a turkey like Wagner wins, and Simon refuses to sign them. Talkback and Simon will then change their tunes - sharp.

With you all the way here Rosie.

From Digital Spy:

Cutmore added that Cardle was "always broke" and once missed a Pearl Jam concert that she had treated him to because he couldn't afford the train fare.

An X Factor spokesman told the paper: "We are hoping from telling her side of the story Lauren has had the cost of the Pearl Jam tickets reimbursed."

That has to be the finest comeback by a PR flunkie ever...

I'll let you be right DJ; I'll content myself with simply voicing an opinion. ;-)

I'm just intrigued as to your idea that only a huge soul voice that belts out sub-standard Whitney or Maria fare has a chance in the States. I'm biased, that's not my kind of music and it makes me want to kill myself. But if all you say is true, then how come Rufus Wainwright? Or Antony and the Johnsons? Or other people I am failing to name right now.

I think you either have to be American or something really special to cut it out there. Success in America also means touring lots....it's a completely different operation to the UK and europe. You can't manufacture/ package a band/ act out there like you can here. And as you know, they also have many charts for different types of music...billboard is not the be all and end all of real musical and financial success in America like the top 40 is here.

And to be fair, Matt is no Rufus Wainwright.

If we look at things vocally. We saw how challenged most of the acts were getting to grips with what are complicated songs to sing on Saturday. The only act that coped with that complexity was Rebecca. That tells us all something about her range and skill as a vocalist. The other don't have that. Of course it needs more than that to be a superstar, but for me, she's the only one with a realistic hope of achieveing that.

Matt, One Direction, Cher will alll satisfy a market in the UK in the short term and Simon will make money from them. And there's nothing wrong with that. I just think a disntinction has to be made between that and real success and lengevity.

Look at Leona Lewis' success in the US. I agree with you though, as good as Rebecca is she is quite boring.

Leona Lewis had the right plugs on the right shows, did all the right publicity and didn't offend anyone. That was possible because of Simon's connections to the big players in music publishing in America. You don't get to go on the Oprah show, or Ellen or any of those shows if there isn't something 'special' to sell and you haven't got big players backing you (athough I'd argue that under Simon's management Leona is bland).

Rebecca isn't the finished article yet. She's still young and her confidence will come with age. A lot of the great crooners and divas that we revere so much were also painfully shy and 'boring' as performers.

To be honest, I couldn't see what the fuss was about with Aiden, really didn't like his voice. But only saw him twice I think, so may have missed his best moments.

Paige wasn't going to win it, but I do think he's got a great voice, and seemed a really nice lad too.

I don't take the show very seriously, but for these guys, it is their big dream, and Wagner has even said he just wants to work in showbiz, he's not bothered about winning xfactor, so it does seem harsh that some of these guys are going out, whilst he's kept in as a bit of a joke.

Really uncomfortable about the Katie hair-shearing: it's like she's Aslan, or a French collaborator, and must shave her head and don sackcloth and ashes as a sign of penance for showing she wanted to win the popularity contest.

I feel a bit icky. And she looked better before.
