I used to work in a popular gallery in the West End. I once directed Alan Rickman to the gallery's bookshop. On another occasion, I was in the foyer when a lady who collected prints was talking to the receptionist. She turned out to be Gene Hackman's wife. He was lurking in the background trying to remain inconspicuous.
To be honest, I am, or was, quite intimidated by celebrity. So much so that I passed up a chance to chat to Pete Townsend at an event organised by the same gallery. Mind you, I did say hello to Dennis Healey once as we passed in the doorway to the gallery and he gave me a cheery hello in response.

Hand on heart Giggi no googling.

AJM, I used to unsuccessfully stalk Pete Townsend, their Ramport studio was in the road I lived in in Battersea, and I would always buzz the intercom when I was passing in the small hours.

I would get various replies when enquiring as to whether PT was on the premises ranging from 'f*ck off' to one amiable cove inviting me in to share a share a beer on a few occasions.

According to him Pete was a 'right moody sod', so perhaps better all round this excitable fanboy didn't get to meet him.

1. A friend of mine used to be Jenny Agutter's housekeeper.

2. Have sat either next to (or very close to) Sandy Gall on a plane 3 times.

3. Have sat right behind Felicity Kendal at the theatre.

4. Bumped into Heather Mills in John Lewis.

5. Bumped into Susan Hampshire at a theatre bar.

6. Sat next to Aswad at Warsaw Airport, and then sat behind them on plane.

Jenny Agutter lives down the road from my kid's school in Camberwell so I sometimes see her after I've dropped the kids off. A few doors away lives Justin Webb of Radio 4's The Today Programme. Is this the closest thing our 'hood has to Stella Street?

Incidentally, I shared a bus with John Sessions going up Dog Kennel Hill a couple of years ago.

    • Hello everyone, It's been a long time since I posted on here and I just wanted to update the situation. I remain active and available for haircuts. I am a home-visit hairdresser based in SW London. It's been a long time since I posted on here and I just wanted to update the situation. I remain active and available for haircuts. Some of you know me already. I posted a while back so I just want to re-introduce myself. I have been working as a hairdresser for the past 20 years (I'm 50, I trained at Vidal Sassoon and had a salon of my own, Top To Toe in Morden Jan 2000-Dec 2004) but now I just do freelance cutting hair for clients in their homes. I am available to answer queries if anyone has any? My speciality is cutting - men, women and children. I do have colour expertise so can advise but I do not colour hair at home. Thank you. Victoria Call / text / WhatsApp +44 7956 591944 Hairdressing prices (April 2025) Monday to Friday day/evening Ladies £40 / Men £35 / Children (aged 10 - 15) £15 / Children (under 10) £10 Weekend Ladies £45 / Men £40 / Children (under 16) £20   Making an appointment: Please try to give me as much notice as you can as sometimes I can come at the 'drop of a hat' but at other times the calendar is quite busy and I might be only able to offer you an appointment for the following week. There may be members of the forum who remember me coming to their home to do their hair in the 1990s! I have used the forum for a long time, as well also the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) newsletters back in the day. I have many clients with babies - it's one of the many reasons that people choose a home hairdresser. I always allow an hour and a half just in case there are interruptions in the haircut so that we are under no pressure. Finally I always make a policy to mention to new clients that I am transgender woman. I transitioned in 2009 and have reached the point when I "look" perfectly acceptable (I think, There is a profile photo which is up-to-date) however I make a point of being open about my history. If you are OK with that then I would be happy to cut your hair at your earliest convenience. My practice is that you do not wash your hair before I see you and I bring all equipment and styling products with me. All you need is shampoo and conditioner. p.s. If you do look at my website, I happen to be an artist and my website reflects that rather than hairdressing. Victoria Cantons
