Huggers
just wanted to voice my appreciation for beautiful display of flowers and plants in Peckham Rye Park at the moment. The oval looks gorgeous. The gardeners have done a wonderful job. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12481-lets-hear-it-for-the-peckham-rye-gardeners/ Share on other sites

tor
I agree - Peckham Rye Park is looking fabulous this year. I spend a lot of time there with two young children and although they are generally more interested in the playground, my four year old often comments on the 'nice flowers' when we walk through the Sexby garden. (He is also fascinated by the blue water in the fountain and asks me every time why it's that colour.....answers on a postcard please) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12481-lets-hear-it-for-the-peckham-rye-gardeners/#findComment-346378 Share on other sites

citizenED
Too right. I have altered my route as I walk through with my two little boys so that I can have another look on way to Playground or 1 o'clock club. nunheadbelle
Have you seen the meadows? I thought they were just overgrown patches of grass, but on closer inspection they are deliberately left to grow naturally and wild. They have plaques fronting them, exlaining the meaning of the word 'Meadow' and they look very nice close up, I have only noticed two but there could be more.I have always loved the flowers in the park and when I have visitors staying, I try to make a point of taking them on a walk through the park to explore the various gardens.Nunheadbelle Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12481-lets-hear-it-for-the-peckham-rye-gardeners/#findComment-346559 Share on other sites
SimonM
I agree with everyone. The transformation of this park over the last 10 years or so has been amazing and the various gardens and nooks and crannies are delightful. I hope someone who knows one of the gardeners will direct him/her to this thread. DJKillaQueen
I love the meadows....And at the weekend I saw literally a hundred or more bees pollinating from a patch of what I think was lavender. Wonderful to see. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12481-lets-hear-it-for-the-peckham-rye-gardeners/#findComment-346688 Share on other sites
Vickster
Agree with all of the above. I feel hugely privileged to live so close to such a wonderful park with such fantastic resources. The Sexby garden is my favourite spot of all. I spent a lot of time in there when I was on maternity leave, as buggy wheels on the garden's paving slabs tended to have a particularly soporific effect on my son! I have often been tempted to stop the gardeners when I see them and tell them what a great job they do, but thought they might think I was a bit of a mad woman. bonniebird
The gardeners will like it if you approach them and give them praise, they are probably used to getting complaints and its nice to get praise, I do it a lot:)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12481-lets-hear-it-for-the-peckham-rye-gardeners/#findComment-346713 Share on other sites
O.B.G
I agree. The gardens plus the weather have made for a real world class experience right on our doorstep.I feel thankfully smug every time I pop over. Thanks to the gardeners and thanks for the original post. Goodliz
I agree too. Peckham Rye is really beautiful. The gardeners work so hard all year round. Feel so lucky to have this park so nearby. Galliman
Yep lovely gardens alright, but who's charged with upkeep of the bowling green? It's in a shocking state this year, a real shame considering the effort that's gone into refurb of the pavilion and cafe initiative to encourage public play. tallulah71
I agree...the gardeners are all lovely too.Best park around - certainly better than Dulwich park.P.S blue water in fountain is vegetable dye and therefore safer for dogs to drink than the ratty water of the streams. Weird though! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12481-lets-hear-it-for-the-peckham-rye-gardeners/#findComment-347342 Share on other sites
PeckhamRose
Vickster NEVER be afraid or concerned about praising someone.People are so quick to criticise or whinge these days, so praise is rare and so never feel bad about being positive to someone. If it is rejected, well that is about THEM, not you!Having said that, I often smile at and thank the gardeners for their work. Manda
I spend so much time in this park and have always loved it but it's especially beautiful this year and I know a lot of hard work goes into making and keeping it this way. The gardeners do an amazing job but a huge thank you should go to the committee who run the Friends of Peckham Rye Park. They have all given their free time to fund raise for many, many years and have been absolutely crucial to the ongoing restoration and protection of the park. Everyone's starting to notice the results of all the many years of hard work. JonC
Well done indeed. Peckam Rye park maintains its Green Flag Award for 2010 - a quality award for parks. As does Dulwich. Check out www.keepbritaintidy.org for a list of winners.
