EDSNUB Bikes for Schools

Recommended Posts

East Dulwich SNUB has been awarded a Cleaner Greener Safer fund

to help repair old bicycles and donate them to schools. The bikes are fixed, then donated to the four local schools. The funding covers the maintenance of the bikes. The bikes will stay on School property, and will be used by the Children in Cycling proficiency, and other outdoor activities.

With the help of BC Bikes and local residents' disused bicycles

we can make this happen.

Please email [email protected] if you would like to donate your old/spare/ bikes.

Thanks

Hi all

We are slowly receiving bikes, for the bikes for Schools project, however we need more. So please have a rummage around in your shed, loft, garage. If you have a bike you feel you are not going to use, please donate it to us, via emailing BC bikes on the email, in the original post.

Thanks

Hi Thebestnameshavegone, this is funded through the Cleaner, Greener, Safer grant. It funds the repairs and the maintenance of the bikes. The project is based on diverting old unwanted bikes from landfill, and donating them to schools, to encourage children to get Road safe, savvy and healthy.

Hope that answered your questions

Thanks

I heard on the PM programme on Radio 4 that the Post Office/Royal Mail will be nixing its 14,000 bikes and replacing them with vans, mainly because the pushbike can't accommodate all the Amazon/ebay etc. material that the modern-day postie has to deal with. Why not, Monica, get in touch with a Royal Mail high-up and see whether they would consider donating old bikes to your campaign, and to others up and down the country?

BC bikes will be shut for 2 weeks - we are moving to a new location (7 doors along) where Puffin Crafts used to be.

If you have a bike to donate, and can drop it in by 6pm Saturday (11th Sept) great!

If not, hold on to it and bring it to our shiny new shop from Monday 27th September.

ps. We have set up a Facebook page for anyone interested in keeping in touch. BC

Hi Ghostdog sorry for the late reply. The schools involved are Goosegreen, Summerhouse and we are waiting for 2 others to confirm participation.

We still need more bikes, so please donate whatever you have and you no longer want, it all goes towards road/safety awareness courses for the local children.

Thank you

    • I've done some searching and come up with these.  The first looks very helpful for getting to know about the Hub itself, and the others may give some useful history.  I've yet to look through them myself. https://carnegielibraryhub.org.uk/
    • I'm with Octopus, and I have no idea what to do either. Finding it hard to get my head around it all. They seem to have a 15 month fix with no exit fees, however I'm not sure if I exited whether I could just revert to whatever I'm on at the moment, or whether I might find that whatever that is might no longer be an available option. I tend to just heat whatever room I'm in and/or use a heated throw. And use the microwave where possible unless I've got an oven full of stuff which I can then freeze most of.
    • If anyone is looking for a plumber, I would really recommend Niko. He has helped me out with two different bathroom plumbing jobs. He’s super responsive and reliable, well-priced and patient in explaining the issues. His number is +44 7818 607583. HM
    • ??? I feel really weak and  dizzy, I don't think it's a good idea at all to be out. And my vitamin D level is actually much too high. Last time I had blood tests, my  GP told me to stop taking vitamin tablets.  But thanks for your concern! I appreciate the advice, but I only came on here to see if other people had similar symptoms!
