monica
East Dulwich SNUB has been awarded a Cleaner Greener Safer fund to help repair old bicycles and donate them to schools. The bikes are fixed, then donated to the four local schools. The funding covers the maintenance of the bikes. The bikes will stay on School property, and will be used by the Children in Cycling proficiency, and other outdoor activities. With the help of BC Bikes and local residents' disused bicycles we can make this happen. Please email [email protected] if you would like to donate your old/spare/ bikes. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12476-edsnub-bikes-for-schools/ Share on other sites

thebestnameshavegone
So, BC Bikes does this completely free of charge? Or, how is this funded? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12476-edsnub-bikes-for-schools/#findComment-353555 Share on other sites
monica
Hi Thebestnameshavegone, this is funded through the Cleaner, Greener, Safer grant. It funds the repairs and the maintenance of the bikes. The project is based on diverting old unwanted bikes from landfill, and donating them to schools, to encourage children to get Road safe, savvy and healthy.Hope that answered your questionsThanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12476-edsnub-bikes-for-schools/#findComment-353821 Share on other sites

However we are exploring all possibilities, this is a community based project, and we would love the community to participate. Nero
I heard on the PM programme on Radio 4 that the Post Office/Royal Mail will be nixing its 14,000 bikes and replacing them with vans, mainly because the pushbike can't accommodate all the Amazon/ebay etc. material that the modern-day postie has to deal with. Why not, Monica, get in touch with a Royal Mail high-up and see whether they would consider donating old bikes to your campaign, and to others up and down the country? GrahamP
I was at the Manor Place tip yesterday and noticed a couple of bikes that looked like they had been diverted from the "Metals" skip. Would it be worth asking their staff to look out for suitable bikes for you?Graham Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12476-edsnub-bikes-for-schools/#findComment-359171 Share on other sites
