Robert Poste's Child
Serious Q: why do people need permission or an excuse to have a drink? Can't think of anything else it applies to. I was just wondering why you don't hear smokers say anything like that, or fat people ask if they're allowed a cake yet (lying in bed with a bag of Tyrrell's as we speak). I?ve never heard of it which is no great surprise as I communicate by re-arranging the (about) 25 words I do know. I?ve looked it up though as I'm keen to be educated, though I suspect I won?t be saying ?persiflage? very often.
