Ben White
Hello,Are you interested in local and rare* apples?Or do you have an apple tree in your back garden in Dulwich and Peckham?I'm planning to bring together anyone in our area interested in apples, particularly those fortunate enough to have an apple tree in their back garden. The idea is to cherish our apple heritage by sharing, comparing and celebrating either the different varieties grown right here in our corner of south east London, or rare varieties from elsewhere. It would be on a date in October, provisionally the 16th. If you're interested please send me a message.Ben*ie any but the very narrow selection of ever sweeter varieties found in supermarkets. Penguin68
A bit of a thread hijack - but if anyone (additionally) has grape vines which are productive there is a South London company which will (with those of others) create a wine - you get bottles of wine in relation to the weight of grapes offered http://m.urbanwineco.co.uk/ - the wine they produce each year is (ironically) named Chateau Tooting but differs each year as the grapes and quantities offered differ. ED_moots
I presume you know about the 'urban orchard' on melbourne grove. Not sure how rare they are but they are about 6 trees of different varieties. rbrtdngl
Hi Ben,Please do keep me posted on this - I have a few Blenheim Orange apple trees on my allotment, which taste fantastic! Not a huge crop this year as the trees are still quite young, but certainly enough to share.R Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/122948-local-rare-apples-in-dulwich-peckham/#findComment-1047315 Share on other sites
