Haven't walked down LL for a while, so being a lovely evening we strolled down the lane, had a drink at EDT and down to the Sea Cow for dinner - got all excited by the huge big glass fronted shop - peered in - what was it going to be ? looked very swanky

Then we realised it was going to be the Foxtons - ruined my Friday night... ;-)

I mean - its huge

Filming has been taking place this week in Therapia Road - in the same house as used for 28 Weeks Later - see it when it comes out on DVD soon for glimpses of Therapia, Scutari and Marmora Roads.

This time they are filming shots for a new ITV comedy "Sold" - all about Estate Agents. Perhaps everyone on this thread can indulge themeslves laughing at actors pretending to be Foxton like agents.

Hi

Well I caved in and we had the Foxtons Estate Agent round our house to value it. What a mare! Typical smoothy, all talk no brain. Undervalued our house by ?40,000 and dropped several clangers - told me he sells houses without even needing to see them, that one of their selling techniques is to get as many people in a 45 minute slot to view a property as it drives up the competition and that he thinks that smaller agents in East Dulwich will definately go under as Foxtons plan to corner the market!

I know that estate agents are a specific breed but we've had three other agents over to value our property and all of them where much better and a lot less pushy than Foxtons. Whilst I would love to take their no fee offer I just feel that it wouldn't be worth the stress of having to deal with a Foxtonite and I don't want to contribute to the begining of making Lordship Lane another bland middle-class high street - what next - All Bar One and a Strada!

Will definaltely start looking elsewhere.

That ploy of slotting all potential buyers into the same 45 minute slot is not, I believe, exclusive to Foxton's - and it has much to commend it. You only have to tidy the house up, bake bread and crush coffee beans on the floor that one time and not more or less continually for one thing. And I suspect he is correct it can/does drive the price up.

Many of the viewings we had before buying in ED were 'two hour slot' viewings. Mostly attended by pregnant women with a slightly panicky look in their eyes ("will it do..?").

The oddest thing was how untalkative everyone was with each other whilst viewing. Like it was a game of poker ("for God's sake, Jeremy, don't let them know we're interested.. play it COOL".

I know - but we're buying as well so the thought of that pressure when your about to purchase the most expensive thing you'll ever buy is horrid. Will have to practice my poker face and step around all the pregnant panick stricken women. Will now stop the ranting about Foxtons and save it for when the inveitable All Bar One opens - I give it 6 months.

Jenny Eclair's house on Denmark Hill has also been used for this new comedy... she mentioned it on her radio show. I love looking at that house as I go pass on the bus.

Oh and she keeps mentioning that her architect husband (well boyfriend of 25 years) is currently working on their investment property just off Lordship Lane. She adores East Dulwich.

I really hope the likes of Acorn and Winkworth don't go under! We don't want our landlord being forced to go with these people and as a result force our rent up.

It makes me ill when I walk past the new shop front. Just too big and in yer face. The sight of the 'Balham Boy' mini cooper tearing round the roads a week ago also filled me with dread. But I've said this all before....

A user on this forum, Fatfightersforever, suggested that the forum should approach Foxtons for a donation towards the forum's birthday party next week. I did, and they have, they've kindly offered to donate some money and some bottles of champagne. Green & Blue are also going to donate a bottle of very fine wine so it's looking like there will be a charity raffle on the night.
All other agents in East Dulwich have been asked if they would like to help support the forum and none (except Winksworths who supported us briefly) responded. And all 15 or so of them have been approached so please don't feel that Foxtons have been given preference, if any others would like to chip in then they're more than welcome.

    • I am sure what the new plan is but who knows how the postal service will work from here onwards
    • My experience is that my local letter box does have week-day-ly collections - but I think very early in the morning, not at the old 'around 5.00pm' times. There are several daily collections from the box outside the Forest Hill Road sub-post office. I don't think the 'Monday' tab is now ever changed. Mail collections from boxes have got nothing to do with the service we (don't) get from the Peckham Delivery Office. Your Wednesday 12th posting would probably only have been collected on Thursday 13th, if it was posted after 9.00am. If it was being delivered in East Dulwich (where the Peckham DO does come into play) then getting it by the following Tuesday is probably par for the course.
    • Are there no daily collections from post boxes any more? On Wednesday Feb 12 I posted a Valentine's Card in the postbox which is about 20 metres from our house to make sure it arrived by Feb 14 (yes I know I could've put it thru letterbox but that's not as romantic is it). After I posted it I noticed the little metal thingy said "Monday" but I thought this must be a mistake and had not been changed. However, Valentine's Day came and went and no card arrived. In fact it arrived on the following Tuesday, Feb 18 so I'm guessing the Monday collection metal thingy was correct. Has it ever been announced officially that there are no longer daily collections from letterboxes? I remember a time, not even that long ago, when the red postman pat van would pull up at least twice a day, every weekday.
    • My lovely tuxedo cat, Rexy, has been missing since Wednesday which is very out of character. Rodwell Road area, SE22. He is a rescue cat so really quite timid with people he doesn’t know. If you spot him, could you please contact me? Many thanks. He is chipped and neutered.  Photos attached.
