You do not have to lean very heavily on any fence before the whole lot goes over, and my guess is the cost for renewal would be paid by New Bhoy not the aggressive louts.

If they had been asked to move off someone's property they should have moved and without any abusive language and violent acts.

I see no reason for New Bhoy to receive criticism, they should not have been there end of............

Hi - I didnt find it "offensive" as such - but my front fence is about 4 feet away from my living room window and having two dodgy looking pr**ks hanging about outside did not make me feel particulary great to be honest. Also - the point is that its my fecking fence and if I dont want someone sitting on it I should have the right to politely ask them if they would not mind leaning on it and not be faced with a completely unacceptable barage of abuse.

What time was that at? just after 3.30? Probably the same set of ***** that I had the misfortune to meet. Really sorry to hear they shouted at you as well - did you report it? If not you should.

I think they were waiting for someone who lives further up my street (hence there being 3 when you saw them) - I'd recognise them and will call the police if I see them again. We should not have to put up with this sh*t in our own neighbourhood.

Can't believe someone asked why you found it offensive for them to be leaning on your fence. As you said, its your fence and you have every right to be pissed off. I too have a house close to the pavement and on more than one occasion my boyfriend has gone out to move on people just loitering outside, once it was these two guys who'd taken a shine to our dustbin and just wanted to stand there drinking. How random is that?

Sorry Quids, but oh my god, my irascible side is coming out all over the place. People want to actually stand on the actual street? On the public highway???? Shoot them the loitering f@ckers.

You don't want people to stand outside your house, earn yourself some more money and move somewhere where you can get electric gates far enough from the road that you don't have to look at hoi polloi.

Meantime, draw the curtains.

Eh? Assume you are taking the p*ss right? You weren't in the Goodrich road area on Sunday afternoon wearing a purple t-shirt and a Yankees hat were you? - of course you werent - from your post you appear to be literate.

Anyway - not exactly constructive telling people to move to a gated community to avoid seeing the hoi polloi. If you had some dodgy looking people anywhere outside your house you would want them to move on - whether you had the balls to go and say anything or not. The point is that people have a right to stand in their front rooms and not feel threatened. Also - if people were drinking outside in the street thats an offence is it not (i await correction)? certainly is whre I hail from!

PS - we got broken into about 6 months ago and a lot of damage done to our property - so I feel I have a wee bit of a right to be over protective of my home.

Yeah wonder what all those people who regularly have to suffer the noise of anti-social people congregating outside their homes would say to being told to move...why on earth should they (many of them can't anyway)? If I want to drink outdoors I do it on my OWN doorstep not someone elses. And I wouldn't think twice about asking anyone to move away from my front door.

I have absolutely no problem with asking people not to lean on your fence - that's your property and it's fair enough.

But I think expecting people not to stand on the pavement is ludicrous. Unless it's a private road, people are pretty much free to stand wherever they want, no? If I were standing on the street talking to a friend and someone came out of a house and told me to move on, I'd tell them to fuck off too.

The fact is that East Dulwich is full of houses that have very little distance between the front window and the road - to expect to be able to cordon off the area of pavement directly outside your house, and only allow people you deem acceptable to stand on it, seems to me to be not living in the real world.

NB - what end of Goodrich Rd?

We've got the problem of a couple of youths constantly sitting in their car right outside our flat smoking weed and constantly throwing their rubbish out of the car window into the street. I've been out three times now to pick up their rubbish and put it in the bin that's about 10 feet from their car.

Not got the balls to ever say anything as I quite like my windows and legs!!

It was the same lot, I remember the yankees hat as well. Very, very offensive.

RosieH, I get what you mean about public pavements, but believe me, you don't want these morons anywhere near your front door.

Rosie, no one is talking about people stopping to have a chat on a pavement. We are talking about anti-social people who are either leaning on private property or causing a disturbance. I regularly ask people playing loud music in cars with their windows open parked outside my home to turn it down. The law is clear about noise nuisance along with anti-social behaviour and indeed tresspass. And most people are reasonable when asked not to lean on a fence or to turn music down.

These youths that started this thread obviously have no other intention in life than to do as they please and show antagonism to people, and one day they'll antagonise the wrong person and I for one won't have an ounce of compassion for them.

SCSB79....if they are smoking weed (which is an illegal drug after all), just call the Police.......they'll never know who called and they'll park somewhere else in future.

Fact is, the pavement isn't your doorstep. Your doorstep is your doorstep. If you want a longer driveway, get one. If someone's smoking weed, causing a noise nuisance, leaning on your fence, robbing your house, by all means call the police / Southwark council / the A-Team.

Whereas, if you just don't like the cut of their jib, then perhaps you need to be starting with the man in the mirror and asking him to change his ways.

Surely you're not referring to espadrilles again?

On a serious note, I think we should treat others around us as we'd like to be treated.

So I sympathise with this, its not decent behaviour to lean on someone else's fence and cause a noise outside their home. I wouldn't dream of doing that whether I lived in a city or the countryside. To then make abusive and threatening remarks to the person whose home it is out of order.

But it IS part of the public highway which means people are not free to use it as they please.

Patronising tone doesn't do you any favours Rosie - the A team indeed!

No-one has said anything to suggest disliking the 'look' of someone is reason to ask them to move. However many burglars will sit outside a property and watch it before actually burgling it so perhaps a healthy interest in just who is sitting outside your home is no bad thing.
