When have Newcastle been anything else ?

What little you know about football outside your sad little Manu / Chels / arse worlds

Newcastle have been in europe pretty much every season for deacde (until the latest one) - How else would I have enjoyed the delights of Turin, Barca, MIlan or Oslo to name only a few ?

Ask your Spurs or West Hams abour their European adventures in the past decade - brief.

How many other clubs think their season is a success to either survive in the PL or get a sniff of a European place ?

Its easy to support a club that does well. thats why children support manure/Arse & the like.

Adults support a club whether they are winning silverware or not.

As a Scot & a Toon supporter, I think Alladyce is PERFECT for the England job

Touched a nerve there haven't we Snorky. I forgot you won the InterToto Cup last year, you must have been over the moon about that. First bit of silverware since ooooh...let me think now...ummm...oh yes the Fairs Cup in 1969, oh! sorry didn't you win the Texaco Cup somewhere in between too?

For your information I've been a long suffering Spurs supporter since the early 60s. True, we haven't won much of late and I didn't stop supporting them when they were relegated in '77. I have and will always support them through thick and thin and you're to be applauded for doing the same with Newcastle United.

To progress in the JPT & the FA cup would have been nice but are just needless distractions imho (in my humble opinion).

The main & only objection this season should be...

1. Being the 1st club not to get relegated, after being deducted 15 pts (I reckon done)

2. (I said only because that should have been hard enough) Now Trying to get promotion.

So I'm not really bothered that we're out of the cups!! ;-)

As for the next manager of England, my 1st choice would be Harry Redknapp (who I think is one of the most underrated managers in the game at the mo) closely followed by O'Neil or Mourinho. It's obvious we need someone that can actually motivate a selection of good & average players!!!!!

While I'm on a rant I can't believe that once our front two were out injured (Owen & Rooney), the front three that finished the game are not even first choice for their clubs.

Trust me Snorky, it's not always been easy supporting the mighty Arse, we were woeful in the 80's. But I've stuck with my club since 1968, and will continue to do so until the day I snuff it. Please don't even think of putting fans like me in the same category as those sad glory hunting tossers of CSKA Fulham, & Manure. For the record I like the TOON as a club, but have always despised Sam "I'm not talking to those nasty people at the BBC" Allardyce. He hasn't exactly set the TOON alight has he?

Whilst I have similar opinions of fairwaether/glory hunting fans, Chelsea were even more risible that arsenal for aeons, and many of their fans are of the thick and thin type,

You can't have it both ways

Either you are supporter of a big three team that are all 'glory hunting tossers' or even man u and chelsea fans have thousands of genuine fans.

For the record I've supported west ham even outside the glory days *ahem*

Newcastle fans are pretty much my favourite, love the town as well. But I reckon there a quite a few stripey shirts at the botoms of drawers of 'supporters' during their own brief heyday ;)

And yes, I think Jah does the statuesque intertoto a disservice, it's the greatest european trophy there is!!!!

west ham utd, intertoto champions 1999

* edited draws to drawers, shorts in pants is another thread I believe *

Not soemthing I relish

having been to E vs S , I know this will bring out the worst of both sides supporters - lets keep the sides apart unless its competitive.I watched the last one from Barbados as wasnt prepared to endure the crap of a trek to the cesspit of Wemberley

some of the scum who emerge for games like this are appaling people- IOt really has the potential to be an unpleasant experience - no chance

International Football has changed a great deal in the past few years - this has the potnetial to set it back a decade

You are right - but it will take anyone a season or two to remove the systematic rot that Shephered & Shearer were instrumental in creating and maintaining

Owen should be discharged to Boro or somewhere with all possible haste.

clean start needed

Come on, Owen is still the best player in your squad, if he can stay fit for a bit he'll do well for you.

See what you mean about the home nations, I have only experienced euro '96, and the 2000 qualifiers, and don't remember any particular trouble, but I guess there are those "underground" who would relish it...

Snorky has raised a few good points about the England v Scotland games and I remember the regular invasions from north of the border very well. Literally London would be awash with pissed up Scots for four days at a time but '67 and '77 in particular stand out in the memory. '67 because they'd beaten what was then the world champions and a certain Jim Baxter had the game of his life taking the piss out of Alan Ball, and playing keepy uppy and obviously you could understand their euphoria after such a result and performance.

In '77 they invaded the pitch at the end and took home bits of the wembley turf as sourvenirs and smashed the goalposts. Hooliganism was at it's worse around this time and thankfully we have moved on from those times.

I'd only like to see us play Scotland in competitive games and not go back to the Home Internationals. I was at the Euro '96 match at Wembley when we beat Scotland 2-1 when Gazza scored that brilliant goal. I was behind the goal when Seaman saved the penalty. The atmosphere was amazing but it was the Scots who made the most noise and their supporters were brilliant. They never stopped singing and supporting their team throughout and from what I could tell from the whole time they were in London they behaved themselves unlike in the 70s when the violence spilled out onto the streets for days. Not that the England fans were beacons of pacifism I hasten to add.

The hard core of committed travelling supporters who follow England would be joined by the detritus of the football world for an England / Scotland game - Guaranteed - all those miserable little wankers who follow seedy little provincial clubs , yet make up about 90% of the arrests at England games will come along

I also see it with Scotland

2000 may go to Minsk for a cold autumn qualifier and its fantastic - but when we go the to Holland playoff 2nd leg, The ned scum who appeared in Amsterdam with tickets changed the whole atmosphere.
