I doubt it and I sincerely hope not. What's wrong with the England management set-up is that it's the wrong way round. Venables should be in charge with McLaren underneath him.

As for Steve Bruce, well he's obviously surplus to requirements at Birmingham once this takeover goes through so he might as well go somewhere where he's wanted.

So McLaren and the England team got lucky with the results at the weekend. But I can still see us screwing it all up by losing on Wednesday night. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory so to speak. Am I being a tad pessimistic here?

England 1 Croatia 2

Croatia have been rock solid at home but don't travel so well and have recently failed to beat the likes of Macedonia (yeah I wonder what that's like), Japan and Malta away.

It being Wembley I think we'll do it, but am not expecting it to be anything less than shredded nerves time.

I can't believe that we are so happy about the fact that another country has (possibly) done us a favour. It just shows you how low we are now setting our sights/expectations. And worst of all we are now lumbered with that log of wood known as Mclaren, for the forseebale future. How cruel is fate eh??? :'(

Exactly right! I think we'll get there, but we don't really deserve it... Having said that, the table doesn't lie, so if we qualify then we've done better than the team in 3rd.

Thing is, there are big changes needed, and no one seems brave enough to make them. The FAs answer seems to be either through money at a problem, which never works, or give the job to a "safe pair of hands" that will never improve. It's depressing, and worse of all Lampard seems to have gotten his starting place back!!!

Thankfully the international break will be over by the weekend, so here we go

Fulham 0 v Blackburn 2

Derby 0 v Chelsea 2

Everton 2 v Sunderland 1

Man City 2 v Reading 1

Middlesbrough 1 v Aston Villa 2

Newcastle 2 v Liverpool 3 (Ususally a few goals in this one... That said, with Owen missing AGAIN, we'll see...)

Fulham 1 v Blackburn 1

West Ham 2 v Tottenham 2

Of course I do, but Arsenal are at home, against a Wigan side who won't be feeling fatigue, just think they might make a match of it. I've still given you the win!

Liverpool will have some tired players too, but there always seems to be goals in the Newcastle matches.

Chelsea may be tired, but the simply can't lose to Derby.

I hope so. Most of the games look good for entertainment value. The Arse and Man Ure are scoring for fun at the moment and not letting much in and as you say yourself Newcastle v Liverpool is generally a high scoring game and West Ham v Spurs could be similar as both defences are bit suspect but I think we have that little bit extra firepower up front. Roll on MOTD at the weekend as I'll probably be watching England V Croatia from behind the sofa.

    • Hi everyone, we are trying to finslise our decision for enrolling our son for 3+ from September and currently considering Dulwich Prep or Herne Hill. We like both and appreciate there is no right or wrong answer but what we like about HH is great focus on early years and also being coed. However if we can avoid the 7+ stress then prefer to do that. Dulwich Prep is closer but the difference is not significant. we know children are very active and busy in DP and they have great facilities, but unlike HH, we don’t know much about their focus on personal development and emotional intelligence, etc! Also not sure about long-term impact of being in boys only school. Difficult decision for us and we appreciate feedback from parents if you can share please.    thank you
    • Yeah that was their old policy. Their new policy is to force you to have a water meter and if you refuse they put you on a punitively high tariff which effectively forces you to have one. I was doing well with my policy of polite resistance which was to say yes fine I'll have one fitted but then not actually book an appointment or cancel the appointments they made. But then I was persuaded that it would be much cheaper anyway.
    • Lots of lovely lilac shrubs in flower at the moment. Would anyone consider giving me a cutting? It would involve digging out a basal off shoot, roots and all. I'd love one for my new garden but I'm so broke that I have to fill it with plants the slow way!
    • You are welcome to have mine for free. I was just about to post! Three panels - 6ft by 5ft - weathered/natural on one side and painted brown on the other.
