FREE - antique three-seater plum velvet couch, mostly re-upholstered!

I took on this lovely plum velvet couch as an upholstery project with a friend, who is a trained upholsterer. We have fully stripped out the bottom section of it, put in new webbing, re-sewn the springs in, strung the springs together, sewn them to the hessian layer and woven in a lot of coir. We also filled in all the old nail holes with wood filler.

What's left is adding in another bag of coir, securing the hessian and wadding and securing it. I already have the wadding, which will come with the couch.

There is rattan on the arms, which is damaged on both sides. I have been given a quote of ?150 to get it repaired, as I wouldn't have been able to do it myself.

There is also a small tear on the left hand side of the back of the couch (see photo).

The arms of the couch have some lovely carving on the top and the feet are curved, with some scuffing to the bottom (see photo).

Colour-wise, the second photo (where you can see the full couch and the hessian below) is the accurate colour.

Unfortunately, circumstances for both me and my friend have changed recently and I need to pass the couch on to someone who has space to finish the job. The back of the couch and the cushions are in very good condition, as is the velvet - it was just the webbing had gone underneath.

This is obviously an offer for an upholsterer, an upholsterer-in-training, or someone who wants to try and finish it. Once it's done it will be a beautiful couch and, if you choose to sell it, should make a good price.

Still, at least it gives free rein to the bad-tempered, long-winded pensioners that begin their posts "having resided in Dulwich for a not inconsiderable number of decades, may I be so bold as to suggest..." 😉

We are generally fortunate to get a same day appointment should we really need one either at Sternhall Lane or at Tessa Jowell and any necessary referalls have been swift.
    • @Alice if left might have been stolen/taken by someone (peed on by a dog or fox), also there are some little things attached of - I assume - sentimental value. I hope the owner can claim them. Will leave a note indeed with info how to retrieve them, though not with a private phone number in a public space 😅 Maybe a friend of a friend will come across this post on EDF.  @embob97 They do have a ring, sorry.
