loaf
Hi allWe have to apply for secondary schools this October and I am just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the Kingsdale sports scholarship system, and what level of attainment is required for the specialist scholarship. The whole system seems bonkers and over complicated to me, so any advice much appreciated. My daughter does 13 hours a week of gymnastics and competes at regional level, and while she is OK, she is not stellar, so I am wondering if the general scholarship would be more suitable.Thoughts please.Ta Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/120318-kingsdale-sports-scholarships-advice/ Share on other sites
Medusa
When my kids tried out for it, the assessment seemed geared towards different skills - eg hand-eye coordination, bleep test, etc. I had a gymnast, a talented climber and a generally good athlete and none of them was offered a scholarship. Might have changed since then (five years ago). loaf
I have no clue how they figure it out, and have managed to make it all so complicated. Still if you don't try then you never know I guess! Thanks. Cora
Definately go for the sports scholarship day....it doesn't help you get in but will help with the waiting list if you don't get in initially but have gained scholarship/half-scholarship award. Aristide
as far as i can tell it is a method that schools use to be able to assess the 'suitability' of a child for the school. I have heard purely anecdotal stories of kids from the wrong type of family who is fantastic at sport, not getting a scholarship, whereas a more suitable but less sporty child may do.Oh for the days of 'selective' education!
